***TRACKDAY, Croft, Tues 24th June***

Post by casey » Thu Apr 03, 2014 4:39 pm

I’ve always wanted to drive the Croft circuit and this year I intend to do it :D

"Croft Circuit - set in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside. This superb 2.1 mile circuit has been developed for over 50 years into a top-flight racing venue which hosts prestigious Motorsport events such as British Touring Cars (BTCC) as well as the most competitive club level racing. The super-fast sweeping curves of the Jim Clark Esses and Barcroft are a genuine white-knuckle, seat of the pants challenge, taken at 115mph and 130mph respectively in a current Formula Ford car. These sections combined with long straights followed by slow corners make for a scintillating track for both testing and racing."

I wanted to book a date that didn't clash with any other major event and at a time of the year with (hopefully) more chance of dry and warm weather. So, I've opted for Tuesday, 24 June. The trackday is Open Pit Lane** format with Javelin Trackdays and a current “early booking” price of £189. Croft operate “Noisy” (105dBA) and “Quiet” (98dBA) days and this is one of the Noisy days, so those of you with Toyo’s and ought to be OK :D , if you’ve passed at any other 105dBA track (the norm). £189 doesn’t look too bad a price for June, with the higher noise limit.

EVEN better, Javelin have kindly offered a discount of 7.5% off the price, so now only just under £175! You'll need to be a full member of the club to get this discount - PM me for the discount code to use at the Javelin checkout.

** “Open Pit Lane” means you are free to drive on the circuit when you like, for as much as you like, subject to safe numbers on circuit. If you have a standard RX-8, then expect to get about 10-15 minutes on track with around 25-30 minutes to “cool-off”, else you, your engine, tyres and brakes will overheat!

Never done a trackday before? As on all trackdays, they are well managed and marshalled. There will be a comprehensive, compulsory, safety briefing at the start of the day for all drivers, followed by some slow “sighting laps” behind a lead car. I'm sure there will be plenty of experienced trackheads present who will be only too happy give assistance to any novices.

REQUIREMENTS: Helmets are required (and can be hired on the day for ~£10), and you MUST bring along your driving license (both parts if you have them) on the day for inspection.
BOOKING THIS EVENT: Javelin details and booking page can be found ON THIS LINK
INSURANCE: Insurance is not compulsory, but your normal road insurance is unlikely to cover you. Please look at the separate “Trackday Insurance” thread for advice and make your own judgement.
INSTRUCTION: Will be available on the day.
LOCAL ACCOMMODATION: Most of those needing a hotel have booked into the Travelodge, Scotch Corner, A1 (Southbound), price £21/night (as listed 11 May). Link here http://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/219/ ... ound-hotel
TRACK LOCATION AND DIRECTIONS OF HOW TO GET THERE: CLICK HERE
MORE INFORMATION ON THE VENUE: CLICK HERE

QUESTIONS: That’s what I’m here for! I’ll do my best to answer any questions you post on this thread, or PM me.

I want to do this;

@Nigel :D I haven't actually booked yet, as it's over 2 months to go and plenty of spaces at this stage. It's a massive trip Nigel, so I thoroughly recommend you stay the two nights to ensure you are not tired on the day, or on the trip back.

I suggest no-one books just yet; I've emailed Javelin to see if they can offer anything if we get a group to come along.

@Pete - only 305 miles, paah, a mere daytrip then  - it would be great if you can make it (plenty of time to save up for fuel  ).

Hmm, I'd be interested in coming along and it's an ideal time of year for me to book some holiday. We've been planning to do a bit of a Summer road trip in the UK for a couple of years, and this would be a great stop-off on such a trip, but it would be subject to sign-off from HQ - Soph would kill me if I just booked up without consulting her first!

I'll not be booking anything just yet, and I'm with Nigel - if we could get down closer to the £150 mark then I'd be really keen. Is there an extra cost for additional drivers at Javelin events?
To Do List: HKS CAMP2 install; cruise control; new exhaust; detail paintwork, possible respray

Done: Hayward Rotary rebuild and stage 2 port; Racing Beat ARBs, adjustable front droplinks, ram air intake and lightened flywheel; Exedy stage 1 clutch; Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs; Koyo radiator; heated front screen; EBC redstuff pads all round

Hi Sam - sounds like a good plan!

Extra drivers are £20, passengers £5. I'll let everyone know what Javelin come back with on any discounts for a group booking.

Very tempted to go for this as my next trackday. My in-laws have a static van near Summerbridge which is an hour from Croft so I'd probably stay there.

I would like to coment.
Croft realy is a fantastic circuit and I realy would like to drive this in the RX8.
(perhaps in a few years when Ben finishes my engine)
But with distance and timing it,s doutful (does that make me a possible)?
I always came away from this circuit knowing I should have done better until the last time when I managed to beat Martin Byford on the Sat + Sun taking wins, fastest laps and lap records. OH should I?? Well I may sleep on it.
I feel a single seater lap analisyst coming on.
Nice to see your still here Hypo!!
And I don,t see your name down for Spa yet!!!!!!

I'll put you down as a possible then :D
