Wednesday Skidz - 12th December - Santa Pod

Post by 13Black » Thu Dec 06, 2018 11:33 pm

If anyone has the day off and fancies coming to see what real car (lack of)control is about (driving in straight lines with the DSC on can be done by a child) and has £10 to their name, you're welcome to come sit in with me acting stupid and take bets on whether my engine or diff explosms first.

A lift back to Loughborough afterwards isn't mandatory but I have a rally to take part in that evening, so if anyone is going back that way, let me know in case I have to dump whatever remains of my car in Northampton and hitch a ride avec vous

Baaaahahahhaha. What a fantastic day.

A few of you should buy some of the cars destined for the scrap heap to come and have lols with.

You don't need to be 19 / wear clothes that don't fit / listen to music about guns and drugs and stuff. It's your usual petrol head crowd you find at track days - made fwens with the software guy next to me who brought his new Mustang.

Also you're not spending the day stuck behind people with more power not letting you past on the straights, getting frustrated. Plenty enough power to keep it interesting.
Or buying posh brakes and tyres for £££. Not needed.

It probably is a love it / hate it sport (the latter maybe mostly from people who've never tried, so opinions are invalid), but personally I think it provides a much bigger rush than any track day can in a middle-of-the-pack-speed car that an RX-8 is.
What better way to push the limits of a car than purposely going beyond its available level of grip and looking through the passenger window.

Can't wait for the next one.

1 oil burp on the first session (my fault) then faultless all day.
Haven't checked all datalogs yet but I think my temps peaked at about 94'C - cooler than most of yours at idle and at 90mph on track ;)

Omg now you tell me. I'ma buy a roof and boot rack since carrying 10 tyres + tools in the car was uncomfortable... and slightly unnecessary, but space for a friend is good.

Will you be bringing your tyre machine with you then? :p there are tyre changing facilities on-site but the queue yesterday was rather large and I'd rather avoid it and bang a set of tyres-already-on-rims onto the car and worry about changing them later - already got a tyre machine at work but it's one that runs on human sweat and creative swearing (as far as I've been able to work out) rather than eletrikitty. :(

Yep, most of the runs never went above 94'C.

A couple that peaked at around 98'C and 105'C momelontarily for some reason - may have spun / stalled / heat soaked or something. Still nothing to worry about.
Shame I don't have oil temp anymore but maybe next time. I've got the washer tank / pump hooked up to several water sprayers on the NS oil cooler so hopefully that does something. :D

For realz? You actually set up an internal sprinkler system?! That's verrrry cool. Would you extend it to spray over the front tyres for extra slip?

(I assume that's not just fancy talk for having a leak in your washer fluid tank? ;) )
