“Attack 2018” at Tsukuba Circuit

Post by tmk » Tue Mar 06, 2018 9:31 am

Forgot to post this… On February 24th the annual “Attack” time attack event took place at Tsukuba Circuit’s TC2000. It was a perfect day to hang out at the circuit this year. The air was still quite cold, but it was nice and comfortable to sit and chill in the sun. So nice conditions both for the audience and for the lapping cars.

They got a bunch of different classes. I don’t recall all the classes they got, but they had for NA engines, turbo engines, radial tyres and S-tyres etc. Additionally they got women classes too where petite Japanese girls wrestle hairy tuner cars around the track, which was strangely fascinating. Last but not least, there is also the super lap class which has more professional teams and shops and less pure privateers, though I can’t recall what the rules were exactly.

Despite all sorts of new fancy cars such new Porsche GT3s and what not, this is very much a rotary festival. If you want to go around TC2000 in a hurry, starting out with a RX-7 FD still (almost 20 years after its production ended!) seems to be the best bet as they were dominating the leaderboard. Sure, the record holder might be Under-Suzuki’s all carbon Sylvia or HKS’ all carbon 86, but the majority of the heavy hitters are FDs with buzzing rotaries.

The RX-8 is sadly much less popular. I only saw one of them in the pit and it didn’t run any laps while I was there (I didn’t stay the whole day though). There were a few more 8s in the parking lots, but that doesn’t count towards the time attack entries so..

Some pictures of things..

True, but there were plenty of S2000s in the NA class.
