Asking for a bit of advice here... I've had a bit of a search and can't find any specific track day tyre discussion anywhere - please point me in the right direction if it exists and I'm being an idiot).
I've looked at the obvious choices in the 'not horrific' budget which are:

This is the first revision of general stuff relating to trackdays in the UK. Please post up any comments and I'll aim to keep this as accurate and brief as possible.
What is a Trackday?
A trackday is an opportunity to drive your car on a professionally marshalled circuit, with strict safety...

At many trackdays we have a group of experienced drivers who have driven on track many times and are very familiar with the format of trackdays. In such cases we are very willing to offer an experienced Buddy to any newcomers to trackdays. You only need to ask, via the relevant trackday thread if...
Does anyone use a trackday insurance that you can qoute and purchase online on a sunday? I have been pre occupied with tour de snowdonia and have not purchased track day insurance for tommorow. Most ive googled require a phone qoute and the offices are closed..... Good job were not meeting at 730am...
There has been a lot of posting on Facebook and here too regarding poor driving standards, marshalling standards and Track Day Operators (TDO) event management standards. A couple of months ag Dave Woodall posted in the Facebook TRACK TIME group notes from a meeting of several members of...
Hi guys done my first track day in the R3 at the weekend at knockhill and the car was great, I have done many years years of drifting but no grip stuff! It has very basic mods, pettit exhaust, rb dual res decat, d585, mini map, ebc usr discs, ebc blue stuff pads, motul rbf660 and Michelin pilot...
Hi guys whats the consensus for safe water temps on track? Reading the american forums it seems 220 degrees F is the safe max around 105 degrees C in our money whats your thoughts?
I’m taking my R3 out on its debut track session to Brands this week. I tried on my old motorbike helmet earlier that I was planning on wearing and it won’t fit in the car. The roof is pushing my head over onto my shoulder and the problem seems to be worse if I move back or recline the seat a...
So have a evening session at Brands, I have 2 pairs of 595rs. One pair has 1mm above marker and the other pair has 2mm. Am I right in thinking I should put the pair with more thread on the front?
My RX-8 is beyond the break-in stage for the rebuilt motor and I am now looking to start doing a few track days with it. However, I am a complete novice to track days other than the odd drive a Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. for 3 laps around a small circuit experience days. Also, prior to...
It's all well and good getting your car to take the corners well but the limiting factor, even with standard suspension and tyres, is keeping your arse in the seat so you can maintain control - especially if you have leather seats.
This is where the CG-Lock really comes into it's own....
Just a thought. All that are new to the track experience may find some valuable information in the art of setting your tyre pressures on the day. I know it shows setting up a fwd car but the principal is the same.

With Paul posting up a quick review and info about the keyfob cam and some of his own YouTube footage, I thought I'd post up about the details of how its mounted and where to get it from. Recent track day rules at MSV organised events (we go to a lot of these) prohibit the use of suction mount...
ok so let me start with this is purely a cost thing and not because i think i can outdrive road tyres by any stretch
there is a chance to get some used 245 65 r18 tyres for next to nothing (as far as tyres go) when i say used they are 1 race worn and then changed so should have a few track days in...
Having suffered oil temps of 116 degrees in an ambient of 20 degrees recently when 5-10 minutes into a track session I decided to see if there were any easy way to try and reduce the oil temp under these conditions. If I came off the power, the temps would drop noticeably within ~20 seconds, but...
On track days I've not bothered with anything more than getting video on my accident DVR, on the spurious grounds that it keeps me close to the soul of fast driving. I've got gauges and mpg (!) from OBDII on my sat nav, so I've no need for Torque gauging.
In standard form the 8 is a fantastic track day car.
I am wondering why more OC members dont take the plunge and see what their cars can really do on the track. So if you've not been on track before can you say why?
I've never been on a trackday. It looks like fun but I’m not sure how to go about it. Do you just turn up or book? Do you need anything like helmet, roll cage, competition licence or special training? Can my kids have a go (they have a full licence)? Insurance? What if I bend it? Is there anywhere...
IF i go to the AGM i would have a go at the sprint and have some track time but i don't really think that would be wise in a totally standard car so some advice would be nice on some basics ie parts
Tyres at the moment are bridgestone 40's standard equip so they will have to stay as they don't...
Hi all,
We all know how hot the gearbox tunnel gets, so I'm wondering if any of the hard use cars have a gearbox oil temp gauge, or a gearbox oil cooler fitted?
Over winter I'm swapping gearboxes, and if it's needed I'll retro fit one. Got to look after the fluids!
As a novice at trackdays, I've still got lots to learn about taking a car to the limit and keeping it there, so I've come for some advice.
Last time out I got my front tyres (Vredestein Sessantas) rather toasty and howling in the corners and they've never been quite the same since. I conclude that...
so thinking about when the car will eventually get back on the road....(nearly 6 months since i beeped...)
and hope to get to as many track/activity days as I can when she's back, I have a spare set of Stock wheels that I was going to get some 595's for but wondered if this is going to have any...
Had a great day - Rex is standard bar a gutted cat, on cheap rubber which made things interesting!
Only issue I had was at the start - llandow is a short twisty circuit and after a few hot laps I lost all power after a second gear left/right, followed by a HUGE amount of blue smoke.
I had a great session at Bedford today, with Steve Lewis's help.
The Direzza's really gave a heap more grip, so although on the straights an Evora and a Boxter could pull away, on the twisty bits they certainly couldn't. :D
However, I decided to be lazy and keep the virtually new set of...
I've had a search and not been able to find much info on this. It would be good to have people's experience of track insurers. hopefully this thread won't be very big as there won't be many claims. but worth having prices quoted for different tracks from different track insurers.
I would appreciate some tips here guys. Although I've done a few 'experience days' on track with other cars, I've decided to take my Rex on track to see how I find it. I am admittedly nervous about doing this, and intend to do a couple of instructor sessions first to see how I find it. This...
I found this yesterday while looking for some apps. I installed it on my iPhone and it looks quite good, especially is you are a regular visitor to tracks.
I’m not sure if this is the best place for this, so mods please move as you think fit.
Steve Lewis introduced me to Qstarz at Snetterton, and I ordered one just before I left for Africa. Having got back for a short while, I thought I’d try it out in preparation for a couple of track days where I...
Just a comment on something that sort of grows but is actually incorrect.
There is no bible of track day rules set down from a governing body. Track day rules are set by the insurance cover that is used on the day. In many instances this is this set by the venue as for many club days the day is...
Having read Robbie's article on the Rockingham Track day, it seems that many of you with leather(?) seats suffer from poor rear-end grip - basically you can't keep your arse in the seat when going around corners.
I've just found a good introductory set of articles on track driving technique , aimed at the beginner and those people with several track days under their belt.
Track driving tips
Reading those articles will not automatically make you a good driver on track. They should give you a starting...
