Re: For a giggle...

N-ring... lovely. An unusual colour scheme but it so works. Tbh the car looks great in red or blue as well. I think only the white does the car a disservice imo, but don't get me wrong I'd have it anyway! I seem to remember there were some extra goodies on the N-ring other than just the colour schem...

Re: For a giggle...

No way!! Really? Wow. I never win anything, not even a tenner on the lottery. I thought of it as I'd been looking at this one for a while. If I'm ever forced to ditch the RX8 and go one car, which with kiddies would have to be an SUV for the mo, then i would have loved to replace my CX5 and get this...

Re: For a giggle...

Never driven one but I am gonna throw the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio out there. i think 0-60 is similar to E63s ? No idea of comfort but I assume it's big enough to carry 4 people in comfort and plenty in the boot ? Is it as anonymous as a ford focus ? Not sure... I don't think I've ever seen o...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Added premix for the first time ever in 13 years and went for a drive in this lovely weather. For no reason other than to give the car a little bit of an italian tune up.... Used Motul 800 directly from the bottle, but was a little tricky. I have followed ChrisHolmes' excellent suggestion of the 100...

Re: Ceramic CATS and CAT recommendations

I'm currently sat in my electric car waiting for it to charge. I've spent about 5 hours sat in it today alone charging by the roadside. If only there was an efficient, lightweight, high revving small cubic capacity engine, that could generate a decent amount of horses, that wouldn't be intrusive, b...

Re: Ceramic CATS and CAT recommendations

Because even though it may not be the best option, it is often the cheapest option. I thought this idea was out there, but if you think about it, it does make alot of sense. With a cat there is always a danger of it failing and causing havoc, either exhaust or even engine, and the rotary does love ...

There are some great options out there, and some terrible ones.
Yes, all of us are hoping to try to avoid the terrible ones, but it's not always easy to figure out what's what when it comes to CAT's.

Thanks again, Carl for starting the thread !!

Re: Ceramic CATS and CAT recommendations

-Significant power gains over 2.5 inch exhaust systems and OEM systems What kind of numbers we talking here ? What is significant ? ... I would expect anywhere from 10-15HP peak with more torque through the range... Not bad, 10-15HP is pretty significant for a car rated at 231HP. Will be interested...

Re: Ceramic CATS and CAT recommendations

V-Rex, You missed one other company option: http://www.essexrotaryspecialists.com/shop/rx-8/rx-8-exhaust/ Oh yes, oops. Yes I looked into those before but forgot to include them in the list just now. I guess whilst we are at it Rotary Revs seems to do one at £240 which is an OEM replacement. Also a...

Re: Ceramic CATS and CAT recommendations

So.... Some really interesting cat company names put on this thread. HwAoRrDk ( this username took me a few moments to figure out !! ) - the TP cats thing is impressive. Some right proper sleuthing to find that one. Very weird that the don't sell in the UK directly, but amazing find at £160. Shame t...

So is it essentially a decat most of the time or a reduced standard cat?

Re: Ceramic CATS and CAT recommendations

PeteH,

That just all seems a bit bizarre. But as you say better to be safe than sorry so sticking a 100 cpi cat in ( which is the smallest cross-sectional area I've seen ) is a good cautionary measure.

I'm not sure my contribution is very useful for people with road cars, but for what it's worth.
So do the FIA have some minimum requirements for emissions ? I would have thought in racing, you could just decat and forget?

Thanks Phil,

Do you know if Mazda used some sort of special alternate ceramic to help it tackle the heat cycles of a rotary ? Hence the cost ?

Re: Ceramic CATS and CAT recommendations

Anyone know details of the original Mazda cat? Ceramic or metallic. Cells per inch. Etc. It's pretty pricey so unless its Mazda being cheeky they must be doing something in there to warrant the cost. One thing is apparent is that it is the Dirk Diggler of CAT's. I can't see any others for the RX8, w...

Re: fuel economy 101

Cheers, Dr FrankenRex, I will experiment with 3rd and 4th at 30mph, which is the speed around town I mostly do. I've always pretty much driven this way, I think they mentioned staying in 2nd at 30pmh on the Prodrive day and I never questioned it subsequently...

Re: fuel economy 101

If that was the case people would be doing 30mph in 2nd gear all the time in the 8 (yes, I know people do, hence my example, because it is definitely NOT the most efficient way of doing it). I am one of those people. I always just thought 2nd for 30pmh, 3rd at 40mph, 4th at 50 mph and so on. Keeps ...

Re: Child Seat

The tether thing and seatbelt thing from what I can see are two different things. I'll explain and maybe I should put something on the FAQ now. For a group 0/0+/1 chair which can be forward or rear facing which is truly using the ISOFIX you need 3 points of anchorage to stop the seat moving in all p...

Thanks, I kind of knew about the bar arm to the floor, as that's how my isofix seats worked, but not about the top tether. I will read up on top tether and isofix and then update the FAQ where I can.

Re: Child Seat

Children must use a rear-facing seat until the they are 15 months old. Never fit a rear-facing child seat in the front if there is an active airbag on the passenger side of the car. That implies that it's fine to use a rear-facing baby seat in the front of an RX-8 - AS LONG AS YOU DISABLE THE AIRBA...

Re: Transporting babies, toddlers and children

I think I'm done. Eventually !! Could not get the table functionality in BBcode to work so went with colour coding instead, and resized some of the pictures to make it "flow" better. I think I've incorporated everything that everyone added but if anyone sees anything or any typos then let me know an...
