Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

So I’ve returned home and collected the Blue Peril from Chris. He’s done an absolutely top job and I’m grateful for all the hard work he has put in getting the car to this point. Thank you Chris. The drive home was flawless - although the car may have low compression figures, it feels amazing to dri...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

I used over half a tank to do 160 miles home. Huge grin the whole way back though!

I’ll write a proper write up this week.

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

Low compression = lower power output though right?

I’ll get it rebuilt, but not yet :)

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

The Blue Peril has just had a compression test and the numbers aren’t great... especially as it was sold as having had a rebuild 4000 odd miles ago. It’s been Street ported but I am not certain that this would be the cause of such low numbers. Chris informs me that it starts and stops with no troub...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

I’m afraid there is no option of a warranty - it was bought sight unseen and so this was always a potential issue. It hasn’t been driven at all really since at least January 2020 so I have no idea what’s going on. A rebuild is always on the horizon and as I work overseas, it doesn’t have much work t...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

Chris has taken some photos that will assist in setting up agreed-value insurance on my RX8 (thanks Chris!) - here's a few of them. It's looking fantastic (just don't ask me about sills right now) and I'm likely to be able to actually drive it in the near future. I am very excited! https://i.ibb.co/...

How is the repair already done holding out, and when was it done? some pics of the repaired/welded driver side may be useful as a comparison.
It was a complete replacement. I do have photos but it just shows a completely new sill in place, rather than any patch work.

Re: Re-Shell or Repair Sills?

Baring in mind all the work that Chris has done on the car so far, it is a bit of a kick in the teeth if you then strip it so as it can be reshelled :( I am with James, it's worth repairing the Sill Area :thumleft: Bite the bullet and fix the car  I would also prefer to repair the sill, and ...

Re-Shell or Repair Sills?

Bonjour. My 2005 RX8, currently with Chris Holmes getting all sorts of lovely work done, has a rusty sill on the passenger side. It needs to be repaired but I am considering the merits of a re-shell and I would be glad to hear your thoughts on this. The drivers side already has a recently replaced s...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

Chris has been super busy - although I haven't got enough internet to get more photos uploaded. The interior has now been replaced with the set from an Evolve with the cream leather and alcantara centres. I think this really suits the car! Still left to sort: Handbrake cables (in progress) Compressi...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

All this talk about rusty sills has me worried for when I get to properly look at the sills which are currently covered by the plastic stuff. Though I have given them a fair tap along and no holes have appeared yet that doesn't mean Im free.. Hopefully theres no gremlins hiding where I can't see! A...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

There is some good news and some bad news.... Good news first - the doors are on! Chris has done a brilliant job on these - he's kept me up to date through the whole process and has fced some irritating dramas with sheared bolts, worn parts and shoddy workmanship by past owners. Here she is with lam...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

Another update... Chris has kindly organised a quote for repairs to the sill... £1200 for a replacement and £600 for a patching up. These seems on the high side to me - especially as it'll need a spray up after! Chris also wasn't expecting such a high quote. The previous owner told me it cost £600 f...

There’s no marker in the insurance record. Chris will have to let me know if he finds any structural damage when he’s working.

Chris found a repair to the sill on that side so it’s likely to have had a bump.

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

It's been a while since I was last able to post an update, but there is some news to share. The Blue Peril is still with Chris Holmes who has just begun working on the car in a big way. He has sent me a few videos demonstrating how loud and raspy the exhaust note is. I can't upload myself due to low...

Re: Order not arrived... What should I do?

Hello all, My wife assures me that the stickers have still not arrived at my house - we're actually moving house tomorrow and so this is a bit disappointing. I will still be able to retrieve any post that gets delivered, and the order was only some £10 in total, but it's not money I want to throw aw...

Re: Car Throttle 'Living with a rotary' - Any Questions or requests?

Did anyone from the club end up buying Felix? I just checked and its SORN, with the MOT running out in July. This makes me think its either a track day tool or its not being used any more! I remember the auction went round twice (as I placed a bid both times but didn't win) and that it sold for betw...

I forgot I had even ordered them and then checked with my wife before posting. There’s no rush, but I don’t want to miss out either :)
