Re: Problem with steering rack

I had issues with my power steering being intermittent last year, cleaned all the connectors several times, but would still be temperamental each time I started the car. I changed the battery and it has never gone off since. Either fully charge your battery or replace it and see if that sorts it.

Re: What is missing here?

Looks like your air con guy forgot to put the grey cover cap back on. It’s where he would have connected the hoses when recharging the system. The other one is next to the washer bottle. They are just dust caps. Contact Big Pete, I’m sure he will have a few lying around :thumright:

I just got some EBC stick on jobbies off eBay, cost about £5 a set. Done the job, no squealing now.

Thanks for the offer Nick, but as I have fitted the switch now, I’ll just leave it as it is.

Why not an ignition live relay to disconnect it?
Didn’t think of that, however that would have been beyond my electrical comfort zone  my way I’ve only got 2 wires to worry about :thumright:

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Test fitted my solar battery charger, incorporated a switch on the centre console as it should not be connected while starting or running the engine. Don’t like the way the wire is showing coming out of the panel, so will drill a little hole underneath the panel and feed it through that way. Seems t...

Re: Replacement Tablet for Sat Nav conversion

Have you tried holding the on off button down for 5-10 secs? I sometimes have to do that to mine if the charge has dropped too low. It might be easier to just flip the top cover of the sat nav hood to get to it rather than try and poke something down the little hole you made in it?

Re: New Rx8 owner, total newbie with a car of this type

Hi JW welcome along to the Rotary world, if you have no evidence of the coils being changed, then I would put them 1st on your list, also plugs and leads. If the car starts quickly when hot, then I wouldn’t worry about a compression test, just enjoy the car. Drive it like you stole it, always high u...

Everything the others posted above plus as I am in Cheltenham and share a compression tester with Dave 2112 in Stroud so one weekend when your over in Gloucester you could nip over here, Warden Hill, and have a compression test.
Or Stroud whichever is easiest for you :thumright:

Re: D585 Coils

If you want to go for 585’s then I would just go to Rotary Revs for them. You will be getting genuine coils and if you ever need to make a warranty claim ( I have just had one fail) as they are not infallible it would seem. Then you are dealing with a company in this country, not some Greek or Aussi...

Re: I’m a bit worried

Thanks for all the replies guys. I swapped out the D585's for the coils I borrowed off Chris, in between the thunder storms today and fired her up. Running sweet as a nut again :D :D :D It would appear to be coil no2 after my testing with multi meter, so spoke to Josh at R.Revs and have packaged the...

Re: I’m a bit worried

Definitely worth that coil swap first, hopefully it's just that. Was it sounding rough even when cold? Fingers crossed for ya buddy. [-o< I haven’t tried it cold yet John, I will leave it until I have the spare coils on (tomorrow), I will also check the ess and MAF wiring. I did clean the MAF yeste...

No I didn’t disconnect the ess Dave  I just replaced the ess a few months back, with a one from Bigpete. That’s not to say that this one hasn’t failed as well though?

Not sure if it’s the same as that Ian, but yeah I was wondering if it was a bearing issue?
Oh well I’ll know by tomorrow, I wish I’d taken a video of it last night, but don’t want to cold start it again until I’ve swapped the coils.

I’m a bit worried

On Saturday myself and Chris Holmes decided to test our new Rotary compression tester out. Turns out we have a faulty sensor,, which is being replaced by Mick in Australia. But that’s not what I’m worried about. When I put the car back together and fired her up, she was idling really rough at low re...
