Re: £999 track/sprint project - adventures in the Japanese Sprint Series

Thanks guys! Wayne - believe it or not the spoiler was the first thing we did... since last time around we have new suspension, better geo, plus bucket seat & harness. I think it all helped, but we're definitely more comfortable with the limits of the car now as well.

Re: £999 track/sprint project - adventures in the Japanese Sprint Series

The summer break is well and truly over – after a six week break we’re treated to two of the best (not to mention furthest away!) tracks of the calendar: Anglesey and Croft. There wasn’t much in the way of prep to do after Kendrew, but getting the new set of tyres on was a must. Here’s what we pulle...

Well done Ben
Thanks guys :)
I'll update my thread later this week/next week once the pics and vids are ready. Off to Croft in two weeks, so there's not much respite!

And the aforementioned vid: 5 minutes of actual trying to be fast, followed by many tyre deaths :D

Re: £999 track/sprint project - adventures in the Japanese Sprint Series

Cheers Neil! That's a good point, actually - no fuelling issues at all, despite the heat, so the new relay seems to have done the trick. Thinking about it, the car ran like clockwork all day despite being probably the hardest single day on track it has ever had. 30+ degree heat, multiple-back-to-bac...

Re: £999 track/sprint project - adventures in the Japanese Sprint Series

Well then, on to Kendrew! They have a bit of a bad reputation, but I love airfield circuits. There’s so much variation in surface, lines, speed…. And there’s loads of space to have a bit of fun. We had a great weekend all planned out – I was to head down to Pete’s after work on Friday to help with l...

Bugger. Sorry guys, tow car problems means we're out. Can't get a rental van until 4pm so we're going to have to miss this :(

Re: Mazda UK 7/7 Rotary Day - all Mazda Rotaries Welcome!

This could be good - we'll be heading up towards the midlands with the track car that day so could stop in on the way. I've emailed a registration request on the off-chance there's still space :)

Is there somewhere nearby we can part the tow-car and trailer?

Re: £999 track/sprint project - adventures in the Japanese Sprint Series

Bit late with the update but we are now, literally (!) back on track :D Pete had sorted a few bits since my last visit as final preparation for our next track outing. Job number one was to finally get it up on the ramps and have the alignment checked. We were expecting things to be a bit out of kilt...

My mate's just arrive at Three Sisters and said there's a red RX8 going round. Anyone here? You won't miss Pete, look for the giant Pajero with multi-coloured RX8 on a trailer

Re: £999 track/sprint project - adventures in the Japanese Sprint Series

As predicted, it was a b***** of a job - so much so that I completely forgot to take any 'in progress' shots :( Still, the weekend was a success, eventually. The new steering rack was kindly provided with a snapped bolt in the steering UJ, which gave us lots of fun trying to drill out. We also spent...

Re: £999 track/sprint project - adventures in the Japanese Sprint Series

Well we almost (almost!) got it back together in time for Cadwell today. The good news is we know the important bits are all straight - unfortunately the steering rack itself is bent, and despite working on it all day yesterday we were never going to source and fit a new one in time [emoji53] Still ...

Thanks Pete - as ever, you've nailed it. We're back at Snet later this year, so hopefully I'll be able to redeem myself!

Re: £999 track/sprint project - adventures in the Japanese Sprint Series

Thanks all. The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that we can get it repaired, but it's still going to be a bit of a job! Pete has already grabbed a wing, but we'll need lights (F&R), bumper, undertray at the very least, plus anything else we find along the way. Both wheels on the drive...

Well now, that didn’t go to plan! https://farm1.staticflickr.com/901/41160757632_eeacdd5d16_z.jpg Having put the car through scrutineering the evening before, we had ample time the morning of the sprint to set up cameras, check the car over etc. as well as spend a bit of time catching up with friend...
