Re: Track day or road rubber on standard car?

Semi-slicks like the popular Federal and Nankang ones are great in the dry, but they don't have the same water dispersion abilities as a decent road tyre, so in the wet on the road they'll be hairy. In the wet on track, they'll be very hairy. This isn't generally true in my experience.... unless th...

Re: Pete's RX-8 Time Attack project

Our sprint car is still very much a budget build, but as we improve and develop over time I'd love to think we can explore something like this... Two years ago I was about where you are. As you know there's loads of stuff you can do without needing to touch the engine. And sprint classes are quite ...

Re: Pete's RX-8 Time Attack project

Wow.

I'd be really interested to know what costs you face in getting this installed and running - our sprint car is still very much a budget build, but as we improve and develop over time I'd love to think we can explore something like this...

Thanks for organising, Tom - I've not got any free weekends in the run up to Christmas but will keep an eye out in the new year if this takes off :)

Track car's down in Kent at the moment, but I could pop along still if you don't mind a big German showing up (the car, that is, not me!)

Re: My Other car - pics.

I do like a good MGZS180 - had one a few years ago, and really enjoyed it. Here's my, er, 'sensible' daily - all 5 litres and 400 horses of it 8) https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4416/37134479942_a4ca584982_b.jpg 2017-09-18_05-41-06 by Ben Edwards , on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4400/363636...

Re: £999 track/sprint project

Great stuff. Catching the grass through the gooseneck gains your attention, doesn't it. =D> Certainly does!  Nice write up looks like you've been having fun. Thanks for your old coilovers by the way, finally have them all fitted and ride is pretty much the same as stock just a ...

Re: £999 track/sprint project

Well, we’re a bit behind with the updates and the season’s over, so time to bring everything up to present. We had a good 6-7 weeks between the penultimate (Kendrew) and final (Cadwell) rounds of the series – plenty of time to do the last few necessary jobs and make sure everything was in tip top co...

Re: The trackday/youtube/video/look at me! thread.

Has worked fine for me this morning. That GT3 really wasn't keen on corners was he? Didn't seem to be. He had more to lose than me, though! was that the wheeler dealers 944 you passed? :) Good question! It was badged as a CS and had full cage etc. Looked very tidy, but was running on T1Rs :?

The trackday/youtube/video/look at me! thread.

I could't really think of where to put this, so figured a thread for all of our YouTube escapades would be a good start. Apologies if one already exists, but if it does I couldn't find it  Anyway, here's your starter for ten: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06-5eBVxz5k&t=161s This is me with p...

Noise test is 102 I think? TBH compared to some of the Toyota machinery that turns up I doubt you'd have a problem.

Mazda Sprint Series (Javelin) - Half Price Rounds

Hi guys, First of all, I'm not affiliated in any way with Javelin. They currently run the Mazda Sprint Series alongside the Toyota Sprint Series. Awareness seems to be pretty low, and this year (its first) has been almost entirely MX5s. Javelin are offering half price entry for new sprinters at the ...

Re: £999 track/sprint project

Right, sorry for the slow update. Sunday was my first time at Kendrew Barracks (aka RAF Cottesmore) and as such the only true airfield round of the series I’d be able to make. My very first experience of sprinting was at Woodbridge airfield a couple of years back, and it was so much fun I’ve been do...

Re: £999 track/sprint project

Hahaha - in the Javelin event Pete and I came 3rd and 4th out of 9 entrants in our class. We were beaten by a Lotus Exige 190 and a Supercharged MX5, so I don't feel too bad about that  I've been playing around with some of the vids. There'll be more to come (I can tell you're all excited!) but...

Re: £999 track/sprint project

Thanks casey - very much enjoying doing/writing it! The reason I ask is there's now an actual Mazda Sprint Series run by Javelin: www.mazdasprint.com The classes are all MX5 derived, and (other than an all-encompassing 'M' class) there's nothing RX8 specific. Perhaps something that can be developed ...

Re: £999 track/sprint project

Cheers. Times dropped off a bit in the afternoon for some reason - turns out our constant running of the kerbs had vibrated one of the HT leads off a coil, so we did the last couple of runs with no trailing lead on one of the rotors. Didn't spot it until the next day... #-o
