Re: Tein flex coilovers too soft???

Really high end coilovers never seperate height adjustment (unless it's on a pushrod system) - because that's just wasted space that could be used for more damper stroke. Seperate ride height and preload adjustment is a street car thing really, because of the breadth of ride heights and setups they ...

Re: Changing your Gearbox oil.

It can take quite a while for a new gearbox oil to remove the film left by a previous one, especially if one with the incorrect EP additives has been used, as they literally bond into the surface of the synchro's

Re: Tein flex coilovers too soft???

I've had far too little coffee today so apologies if I'm talking out if my exhaust port. But the stiffer 7kg/mm front springs on the rear would make it less likely to bottom out on the rear, no? Just my coffee deprived musings. Not if, as it looks, the springs are too short. It's actually bottoming...

Re: Tein flex coilovers too soft???

That definately looks like either way too much preload or you have the wrong springs on (or swapped front/rear as suggested by warpcoil) - that's nothing to do with the damper settings/stiffness so I don't know why people are suggesting that.

Re: MOT and 2T Premix

Just a quick question, Cataclean and pre-mixing - is this a bad thing? I used Cataclean - and I think it's good. Plan on doing this as a fairly regular thing, as I do a lot of town driving. I certainly wouldn't want to be using it regularly, the cleaners in it pull the oil off the chamber walls...i...

No, the chroming layer for plastic is only a few microns, but it still needs prepping first.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Yep, the recesses are actually to scale from the real ones so they don't go all the way through. If you wanted you could stick a few together and make yourself a little model Renny :D edit: very quick blowover with a bit of white primer (not very good, just some thick radiator enamel that was handy)...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

So...here's what I made for my RX-8-that-I-don't-actually-own-today...it's a bit difficult to photograph with it being translucent as the light gets distorted by layers under the surface, doh: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/Rippthrough/RX-8CentreCaps2.jpg Needs painting and few tweaks, but ba...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

I might do given the interest, I was just wondering/playing around really and couldn't see anything similar around, one is printing atm on some fast/rough settings just to see what it comes out like, will do a proper one later when I put my glass print surface back on. http://img.photobucket.com/alb...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Depends what I print 'em in, I'm running PET-G atm which is the same stuff you get pop bottles, etc, made from, so much better than the usual PLA, etc, which degrades. And to be honest if they're painted to get the colours it's not a massive concern anyway.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Yes, I made the MX-5 ones in two halves to makes sure the surface finish was good on both sides. Tabs will print without support on my machine, I can do that much overhang.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Right, I've had to tweak the rotor gear-set and some other bits on the shape just to make it manufacturable, but I don't think it looks too bad. Maybe a bit too 3d, perhaps make the rotor thinner? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/Rippthrough/RX-7%20Wheel%20Centre%20v4.png I modified the clip ge...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Well, related as it's a Mazda, albiet MX-5 rather than RX-8 - but I've been trying to get a set of the original Eunos MK1 centrecaps for ages, and they are either damaged/lugs cracked, or silly money (I saw some last year at £40 each!) - so today I made a set, took a while but at £40 each otherwise ...

Oh really? Is that all? OK that's not too bad. They aren't a problem as yet, they're an advisory on the most recent MOT, but I know they'll need doing at some point, and I was thinking in exactly the same terms as you put it - to get them done before they get too bad. Ta for that. They shouldn't be...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today?????

My sills aren't urgent, but I'll have to do them at some point. What's the expectation on cost if they need some welding? How much will I likely need to put aside? Depends how bad they are, the longer you leave it the worse the job will be and more will need to be cut out, between 100-300 per side ...
