Re: New owner - needs help with SSV issue

There were reports of alternative solenoids "working" but triggering a CEL as the circuit test is sensitive to the resistance.

Looking at the Angel Motorsport video of the new engines would have me worried. I'd certainly have it striped and checked...
Those were "reman" engines subcontracted by Mazda NA to a US company to rebuild. They're not sold in the UK or Europe.

Re: brake servo vacuum hose hiss?

The hiss would have been vacuum, e.g air going in not coming out.

There's a non-return valve to hold vacuum in the servo.

When you restart the engine, give the throttle some light blips before driving, so the vacuum can accumulate and ensure that you have fully working brakes.

You can't beat chain spray for lubing that UJ.

Glad to hear it worked for you too.

The above said I am prepared to look dumb by having missed something that when discovered as the cause should patently have been obvious. Hopefully Tim at RX Motors will be able to pinpoint the source of the scream tomorrow. Yes, this is going to be one of those occasions when you don't mind being ...

My apologies, I only saw your post on Tapatalk which doesn't show the poster profile, so didn't know you had an R3, which significantly changes the answer.

Re: Paint Code Location

At one meet there were two VRs parked together.

Looking from the front, the left one was darker than the right one.

Looking from the rear, the left one was darker than the right one.

Which sounds okay, until you really think about it..

Re: US Headunit import

The US cars only had manual a/c as standard. UK cars all came with automatic climate control, which shares some of the circuitry with the fitted head unit. That's why the original Metra double-DIN fascias don't work on UK cars. Unless your car is a JDM import then the US head unit won't work either....

Re: RR54 SC Track Project AKA The Red Devil car

Everything suggests "rubbing" e.g. a bearing, until you get to the bit about "continues after ..." So, I my mind it has to be related to either vacuum or pressure. Vacuum exists in the intake and brake servo. Pressure exists in; - cooling system - combustion chamber & exhaust...

Re: RR54 SC Track Project AKA The Red Devil car

Oh and the scream is still there and baffling everybody who hears it! Perhaps it would help if you summarised; - when it does/doesn't make the scream. - what checks you've done - what changes you've made, since the scream started - basically, what potential sources you have eliminated, and why. Hav...

When did you last replace the cabin air filters from behind the glovebox?

If these are mucky then the A/C doesn't stand a chance in this weather.

Has it still got the cat fitted?

The NCT doesn't require a cat for rotary engines, so many take advantage and fit a decat.

Mine still throws a P0171 occasionally, usually halfway through an MOT, as it seems to be connected to running at idle for too long.

Re: Engine running compression tester.

This is exactly the mechanism that the 8s PCM uses to identify "misfires".

In some cases it's sensitive enough to determine which rotor isn't pulling its weight.

The causes of such misfires include ignition, fuel or mechanical issues.
