Re: A|C Controller \ Console Display driver
It's the Metra delay that's been putting me off going double-DIN, so this active component, alongside a quality frame kit, would be ideal.

Re: The First Project Car…
Do you have a partner you could add to the insurance? It's a bizarre fact that adding another driver, especially one with a potential low risk factor, can lower the premium. It's also perfectly legal, as long as the insurance is in your name, as the primary driver. It would be illegal for them to ta...

Re: Oil flashpoint
We discussed premixing and flashpoint with the technical team at Fuchs Oils, over lunch, while Malcolm and I were there for the investigation of damage to 6-speed 'boxes using GL-4/5 oil. Anyway, they were a little confused that we would even think is has any relationship with the ability to functio...

Re: Alloy Refurb and Paint Cost?
Just be aware of using generic powder coaters, that do garden gates etc, as well as the occasional wheel. These guys will have their ovens set too high for the wheel alloy and cause the structure to crystallise internally and become very brittle. If you're lucky it might be obvious enough that edges...

Re: Once you go black.... (Condor's Cursed PZ)
Strange grinding noise in reverse could just be a caliper.
The anti-rattle springs get compressed if the pad drags in reverse; sometimes causing a grinding, sometimes a rattle with pitch tuned to rotation rate.

Re: Once you go black.... (Condor's Cursed PZ)
IME the SSV opens a bit late when revved stationary. I suspect is a combination of the built-in hysteresis (on/off delay) that's designed to stop it hunting around the trigger point, which can also be the cause of an artificial dip in dyno print-outs, and that the trigger algorithm is based on revs ...

Re: RX8 road and track car .
Agreed with the "fabric seats for track" . rather than "leather". These are a lot lighter, don't get hot in summer, or cold in winter, so don't need to be heated. They also provide much better grip for your bum and lower back when cornering or braking hard. The latter can make a ...

No, there's no rubber bellows on the rears, as the top mount is so much deeper so the rod isn't exposed.

I would normally recommend https://www.mx5parts.co.uk/shock-absorb ... -mk4-15273 from the Front dust covers, but they appear to be out-of-stock, so dealers or good used.

Whilst your obvious a long way through the design and construction stages, you might still find this of interest. Alloy tank 2.5L capacity, including "sump" and sight tube, while retaining original washer tank. Oil held high in engine bay to ensure gravity feed to OMP - self-priming - expo...

Next on the list is the gear knob as I am not a fan of the standard one. What do people recommend? Any pictures of different gearknovs fitted? Any advice would be appreciated. Whatever you choose, it needs to be HEAVY, as least as much as the original. I've driven a members car with a aftermarket k...

Re: Running temperatures and premixing.
The oil needs to be running consistently over 100C; this is both the design specification window and ensures that there's no condensation emulsion. However, where you measure temperature within the circuit has a huge impact on what you see on a gauge, for both coolant and oil. Mazda realised they ha...

Re: Running temperatures and premixing.
Those "increased" temperatures are certainly nothing to worry about but it would be interesting if we found a direct correlation between premixing and lower running temps, though I suspect it would need a lot more data points

If you're referring to Ruthenium HX, NGK don't list any for the RX8

It'salso strange that NGK label them as "HX" in some markets and "Rx" in others

220 mile round-trip today and confirmed that the brakes are so much better [emoji3]
Took the total mileage to just over 50k, which shows how little we're driving these days. [emoji44]

Not that I recall. The differences are internal, though there should have been a suppliers part number marked, when they were new.
