Re: Towing to deflood.. How far?

If the Eccentric Shaft Sensor has failed then the CEL doesn't go out when the engine is cranking on the starter.
It should come on for the lamp test and then go out.

Again, if failed then there would be a code stored and an ODB2 reader can't show live cranking rpms.

Re: Bulb's high's & lows (an RX-8 story)

VFAD is the intake valve in front of the airbox, unique to the 231, operated by the vacuum pipe held by the little clip moulded on the very front (of the car) edge of the airbox. There's a one-way valve in the pipe, as it passes by the ignition coils, that some people remove and replace backwards, s...

If I'm seeing the second photo correctly then that's the counterweight behind, which is only used with aftermarket flywheels.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Warmish restarts can be an issue on any modern car. Engine bay heat soaks into the intake and the PCM is convinced that it's a hot day, and chooses fuelling to match. As the engine spins on the starter, that air in the intake is drawn through to be replaced with cold air from outside, and the fuelli...

Re: 231 gearbox input shaft sleeve

It's very easy to tell, visually. The oem flywheel used with manual transmission (MT) has a variation at the thickness at the edge, providing the counterbalance with the maximum angular momentum with the minimum actual weight. The auto transmission (AT) has a conventional counterweight. Most (near a...

How many miles on those BHR coils? Was the dwell changed when they were fitted? There's no evidence to indicate that the D585 coils last any longer than the Mazda OEM (of B or C specification). They were popular in the US because they were much cheaper and readily available - though somehow they wer...

Re: Wanted Mazda circular emblems front & rear

The A suffix means that there has been a specification change since the very first production. Sometimes it's a change in the materials, while occasionally it just indicates a change of supplier. In this case the 731 & 731A should be interchangeable on the back. The front badges are very differe...

Re: Wanted: Steering Wheel Clock Spring for R3

Be aware, there was a change in the clock spring specification fitted after VIN FE10**-301269.
The later part # N121-66-CS0B is a retrofit for the earlier versions, so there doesn't appear to be a compatibility issue.

Dealer retail is £82.91 plus VAT.

Re: replaced battery and now lights do not activate when locking the door using the fob

You can fit leds in place of the original bulbs, however... - there's a lot of variation in the quality of leds available - some are larger than the original bulbs, which cause issues with the enclosure - (nearly) all leds are polarity sensitive, so only work one way around See here https://www.rx8o...

IF anything, and as mentioned above (could still be "placebo" / mind games) but I'd say my car did have a feint "fuelly" whiff internally for past few months; which has now gone completely! Maybe my seals were on the "way out"!? I always put it down to the decat; but w...

Only thing that's bugging me is that one of the valves is stuck down Bent valve stem or just corrosion between the stem and guide? My guess would be the latter, as no sign of impact damage to the head. Might free with just some penetrating spray, though I assume you'd be replacing the stem seals an...

Re: Announcement: New recall for R3s

There is no MOT fail for outstanding recalls. It was proposed a couple of years ago but rejected.

It would be useful if outstanding recalls were shown as an Advisory but that wasn't included as an option in the proposal.

Re: DIY: Short shift

Interested to hear how well this works in practise.

The S1 owners had/have the option of the Axial Flow shifter, https://www.axialflow.com/ss8_diy.htm, which is the one that I'm running.

R3 owners never really managed to get a shifter working properly, as most/all caused issues.

Re: Lumpy tickover and stalls

Does the tick over get any smoother with the clutch pedal down?

If so, the neutral switch on the gearbox has an issue.

Does the tick over change with a/c off?

Failed engine mounts are the most common cause of shudder on tick over.

Re: Hachiroku's 40th Anniversary

It gets much more complicated with a 40th Anniversary, as the suspension units/springs are unique. Mazda didn't even use the same springs for the entire short production run. The only way to know which springs were fitted is to check the Mazda systems before ordering. Your Mazda dealer should be abl...
