Re: Prop Shaft, for cost of postage
Thanks to Nick, I now have an addition to my "What makes RX-8s special" display. :thumleft: For those that haven't seen one close-up, the Carbon Fibre propshaft doesn't have the classic cf weave pattern that you associate with cf panels, as the outer layers are wrapped around; almost looks...

Re: Fuel in oil
You should always check the oil level between 5-15 minutes of switching off a hot engine. Ensuring that the car is parked on level ground. Any other method can not be relied upon to be consistent or accurate.

Re: Fuel in oil
If the Sohn tank is mounted high enough in the engine bay, and the OMP piston is sufficiently worn, then it's possible for some 2T oil from the tank to syphon into the engine while parked. Mine does this when left for weeks, and the give-away is the burst of oil smoke when starting the first time af...

Re: Cross threaded the front leading spark plug hole
The one I have is double-ended, with different thread on each end, fits inside a standard plug socket tool. Had it for at least 40 years, so no idea where it came from. This one is a clever design as it assumes that the thread at the bottom of the hole is less likely to be damaged, and therefore can...

Re: Cross threaded the front leading spark plug hole
It really depends how bad the thread has been left. I've got away with a thread chaser a few times, which will re-form the remaining thread while removing the minimum amount of material. You need to be confident that you're engaging the chaser at the correct angle, square to the hole in all directio...

Re: Harry's GL04 MXU Project Banana!
Back when I was an apprentice (early 1970's) , I'd be bringing home carbon tetrachloride by the gallon from work, for cleaning engine parts. Heat in an old kettle over a camping stove made it even more effective :D Recently had cause to lookup the Health & Safety documents for this stuff, and it...

Re: RX8 Clicking Noise HELP PLEASE
You're assuming that the link between the click noise and engine revs is directly driven by rotation, which is reasonable. However, it could just relate to vibration/harmonics, which also increase with revs. The last time I spent days tracking down a strange clicking on an engine, not an RX8, I fina...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Took mine for an airport run this morning, as we had a friend flying in. The car didn't miss a beat, except the centre console was totally dead. :( :? Initially I was grumbling about Mazda, as the dealer did the airbag recall last year. However, the last job I did on her was removing the old Nokia (...

Re: Paul's RX-5
Better to use Carb Cleaner on these, rather than Brake Cleaner.
Carb cleaner is specifically designed to clear fuel varnishes, and should be more compatible with the materials.

Re: RX8 Clicking Noise HELP PLEASE
If you're removing drive belts to check, try spinning the idler pulley, as it's common for the bearings in these to fail, making nasty noises.

Prop Shaft, for cost of postage
If anyone is scrapping a car, then I'd be interested in the prop shaft, for the cost of posting to NI. It's not as a replacement, just part of a collection to show some of the things that make the RX-8 special, in this case the carbon fibre prop shaft. All UK-spec cars had the cf prop, only the JDM/...

It's worth mentioning that's the Mazda North America version of the Recall instructions, which we already have on file.
What we don't have is a current version of the Mazda UK document.

Re: My BMW i8 replacing my M3 V8 and R3 RX8
There was only one hitch on the day when there was an awful grinding noise from the left side as I returned across the paddock, eventually spotted that one of the fibre undertrays was damaged and at speed it had been pulled down and rubbed on the tarmac. A Stanley knife and a hard pull sorted that ...

This is the part for your car, which is different to pre-2006 cars, and the same as most post-06.

Re: Seized air con compressor/clutch
I came across similar years ago.
Apparently the car wasn't starting, doing the "machine gun rattle" from the starter solenoid, so the owner rang the garage and they told him to "give the starter a thump".
Only it wasn't the starter he thumped, too hard

Re: Unicorn dung, or Petit SC kit
There's as much, maybe more, activity in the Forced-Induction front for Renesis in AUS/NZ than anywhere else in the world. The Petit kit was never great and being 20 years old means that it's long been superseded by other alternatives. See our Boost Junkies section https://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/fo...

What does the engine rev to?
That's the easiest indication of being a 192 or 231, without opening the bonnet.
