Is there any chance that you knocked the ESS, or it's wiring, while working on the sump?
That can cause a misfire, as can anything iron/steel stuck to the ESS magnet, even just iron filings

Re: Brief power losses under light load
This is what is being referred to as the brake pedal stomp - https://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=34703 However, is sounds to me like you have either a loose battery connection or a bad (loose/corroded) earth connection. Either would cause interruptions in power and any num...

Re: How to clear up headlight and tail lights
I'm using cheap screenwash from home bargains and was wondering if that's caused the rapid clouding of the headlights again? If you drive in the dark then using screenwash that isn't compatible with polycarbonate headlights will not only fog the surface but can also cause microcracking of the lense...

Re: Looking for good condition used coilovers
Keeping the PZ on "PZ suspension" especially a new set from the group buy, would add significantly to the value of the car, as they aren't available new from any other source. OTOH, fitting aftermarket coil-overs would reduce the commercial value of the car, potentially to lower than a sta...

Re: 18 inch space saver wheel required
I've only ever used a space saver once, on a company Mondeo, and it was a right pain. The speed and handling restrictions are as bad as a temporary puncture repair, plus you still have to go through all the "change the wheel at the side of the road" stuff. That was 20 years ago. Obvious, t...

Re: 18 inch space saver wheel required
It's not the wheel rim size that needs to match, it's the rolling diameter of the tyre, which is a function of the rim size, tyre width and aspect ratio. As per the FAQ thread that I linked to, the matching space saver was fitted with a Bridgestone T125/70MR-17 98 tyre, so that ebay listing may well...

I assume it was only when the AC was running but I hadn't performed any related checks, before it was "cured".

The Electrical section of the Workshop manual shows the positions on all the looms and earth points, it would also should which ones are common to those circuits https://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/v ... 58&t=41584

Re: Help needed: TC, PS, DSC, ABS, Handbrake light on, power steering & speedo not working
Bad/corroded earths can be more of a problem in very cold weather, as combination of the differential shrinkage of metals with temperature, plus the drop in battery voltage.

Re: Help needed: TC, PS, DSC, ABS, Handbrake light on, power steering & speedo not working
The first things to check are the battery connections and the main earth, the point that the battery negative connects to. There's also a fuse for the power steering on the positive connection. The ABS and Speedo are both dependent on the ABS control unit, which itself depends on inputs from wheel s...

Re: Wanna see a picture of a topless model ?
It wasn't designed to travel at more that 20mph, taking VIPs around the factory, so it makes you wonder how it handles with the roof removed. It's not unusual for factory "topless" versions of coupé cars to weight 10-20% more than the originals, because of all the addition structure requir...

Re: Sucky, rattly noise, low RPM, under load?
Just rereading this thread, I was reminded about a curious phase that my car went through a few years ago.... I was getting a gurgling noise from about 2k to 4k rpm, mainly noticed in higher gears. It seemed to be coming from behind the dash and wasn't related to any significant loss of performance....

Re: Battery saver
If the battery needs changing then the PCM will already have adopted a strategy (charging, load, stop/start, etc) to cope with a dying battery. If you use a stealth process to replace that with a new battery, then there's a good chance that it could be damaged by the continued use of that (now wrong...

Re: Car insurance woe (family wagon)
That sounds like a fair offer. Did you hang on to the vehicle throughout, so it's not been subject to further damage? We've had mixed results with Chipsaway, as it's a franchise. They all use the some tools and materials, and have the same training, but some are clearly better than others. Sent from...

Re: Project PlankenRex
That's the same for all the successful FI builds that I've seen; engineered for driveablity not just the dyno pissings competition. It's also the 2nd reason why many with such motors choose to fit the 5-speed (192) gearbox, as the ratios are better match to the new torque curve than either 6-speed o...
