Re: I got one!
Result for you and he clearly didn't deserve to own a Rex and he clearly flooded the engine. As Nick says, a noise from the gearbox in neutral, that goes away when you put the clutch down, is perfectly normal. If it seems excessively loud then it might be an indication that the gearbox oil is overdu...

Faraday key pouches
The Puma has a keyless entry and start system, so is a potential victim of Car Key Spoofing (aka Relay Theft) and being the ST it makes it more of a worry, especially as there's been a spate of reported thefts in the nearby towns, though mainly Mercs, BMW's and Transit vans! Anyway, one of the prote...

The LEDs scattered so much that every particle of moisture in the air lit up and it was like looking at a brightly-lit fog.
I could really "see" anything and there was no contrast/

Re: Topping up oil - semi or full synth
Just make sure you're checking the level within 5-15 minutes of switching off a hot engine, otherwise the reading will be wrong and you risk an overfill - which is a BAD THING

I normally suggest people get their gaiters from https://www.mx5parts.co.uk/front-shock-absorber-spring-seat-gaitor-mk3-35 as they're the same as the MX5 and that source is much cheaper than Mazda, only they're out-of-stock If you have difficulty sourcing locally, I think I might still have a pair o...

Of course, all the advantages of the Sohn apply to the COFS too, plus the COFS is better engineered, designed and built in the UK

Re: Best oil for use in COFS / SOHN setup
The main benefit I get from having the Sohn is that the sump oil level doesn't move between changes. I can set it at 3/4 Full, knowing that it won't need topping up again, so no chance of running low or, worse still, overfilling. The side benefit is I know that the oil being delivered to the injecto...

That's nearly as much mud as we found baked between the sump and sump guard under the Jeep - 25kgs including the flint rocks!

Re: RX8 Fuel Economy Tweaks and thoughts
Checking the brake for dragging is always a good tip, and often increased fuel consumption can be the first indication of issues. The pistons rarely stick in the calipers, unless really neglected, but it's common for the slider pins to stick, especially if the wrong grease was used on assembly. Copp...

Re: Best oil for use in COFS / SOHN setup
That's another example of oil that is designed for premixing and not for injection, so shouldn't be used with Sohn/COFS

Re: Advice for complete disassembly
Council-run recycling centres all have disposal points for fluids; engine & transmission oil, coolant, brake fluid etc. The problem is legally dealing with the gases released by the AC. IME cars take over 10x the space, once you start taking them apart, for which obviously the engine and gearbox...

Exol Optima isn't a single product, it's a branded product line https://www.exol-lubricants.com/products/automotive/low-saps-fully-synthetic-engine-oils/ If you're running a COFS/SOHN then something like https://www.exol-lubricants.com/product/optima-c3-lsx-5w-40-m412/ should be fine in the sump. Re: Best oil for use in COFS / SOHN setup
It makes a change for an oil company to respond in that detail, and is a good example of the point I made above.
I always thought that someone at Motul had a great sense of humour, naming their product "710" - for those that put their OIL filler cap upside down

Be aware that the airbag control system is very sensitive to circuit resistance.
Disturbing those connections can trigger preflight check errors, which are then a pain to resolve.

However, I recommend investing in a kit like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123735248113 to check if/when it happens again, so at least you'll know if it's an internal water jacket seal leak, or not.

Alfa Remeo OC & North Weald 1982
I was checking through a stack of old disc drives and found this archive that I'd forgotten I had.
