Re: Creaking under car and heavy clutch pedal when warm
Again mine's the same. I did have a theory that it relates to how tall the driver is, or at least how long their legs are... My left knee has to hang to the left while driving, so the clutch action has some sideways thrust, rather than being just up/down. This may account for why some cars suffer fr...

Re: Ouzify’s custom headlights 2.0
40 years ago I made a simple modification to the headlights on my Alfa. It has "dual headlights", the outer pair being dipped beam and the inner pair being main beam. As supplied, the dip switch would switch between inner and outer. which resulted in a few milliseconds of darkness in the s...

Re: Harry's Project Banana!
That's the same stuff we used to fix brushes across the gap over the roller shutter door on the garage. The bond area is full length, for each section within the webbed I-beam, but only 15mm wide, fixing a plastic profile to the painted steel. Given the wind forces (the highest windspeeds in NI are ...

Re: Chrighton rotary
Strangely, I was talking to the one of the mechanics for the Crighton rotary team at this year's TT. They were only allowed to do a demonstration lap, as it no longer qualifies in any of the races. The Eccentric shaft is hollow and they have to engage a leaf blower to the front of the engine in the ...

Re: Creaking under car and heavy clutch pedal when warm
Mine has been the same, for years. A spray of silicone oil in the master cylinder, where the push rod goes, will cure it for a few months at a time. When it's really dry, there's so much noise when you operate the clutch, that people passing by look to see where the noise is coming from! Sent from m...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Replaced a 12 month old Varta E23 with the Varta N72. Quicker starting (tested both batteries at 100%) with the N72 so I'm happy with it despite the higher cost. The N72 (or any EFB) wasn't an option when this FAQ entry was first made. https://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=...

Re: OBD2 Port
It's possible that one or more pins have pushed back in the connector, especially if someone has been hamfisted with it.
I've yet to have this issue with any 8, but it's not uncommon with some other cars where the connector is less accessible.

Re: What are recommended oil cooler lines?
The original lines come in more separate sections, so have two additional joints. This is due to the production process, where the engine had the lines attached, and this was installed into the engine bay, with the oil coolers already installed with lines attached, so they could be joined, mid-line....

Re: What are recommended oil cooler lines?
I don't know where you heard this "information" but in 21 years of experience with these cars, it's a new one on me. Here's the flow chart, which doesn't show any flow route that doesn't go through the filter. The only time the filter is bypassed is if the element gets so blocked that the ...

Re: Ways to reduce weight - the car that is
The cloth interior is much lighter than the "leather". Obviously so with the front seats but even the rears and door cards add more lightness - that you already have. The 192 Halogen headlights are lighter than the 231 HiDs, plus motors, ballasts and sensor links. Phillips or Osram Halogen...

Re: Steel exhaust surrounds/shrouds
These items, including the exhaust trims, are "UK Dealer Fit" and not "Factory fit", though the prices included fitting. Dealers would often supply and fit to new cars "for free" to sweeten the deal, so the prices are artificiality inflated to make that appear even bett...

Found Mr Screw in one of my 19inch road tyres which was losing pressure. Got some track tyre fitting to do next week so Mr Screw will be removed and the tyre repaired by me then. Having now seen your location - which doesn't show on Tapatalk, if you're not confident to investigate yourself, I'd recommend contacting Aston at Essex Rotary and see if they can fit you in a for a quick check.

Re: 5th and 6th only engages the conventional way.
It's not the classic synchros issue, so it might be a problem with the selector. It would still be worth knowing if the 'box has been reworked, as then you'd know if someone has been in there. You could remove the centre console and follow the process as if you were fitting a short-shifter to see of...

Re: 5th and 6th only engages the conventional way.
The earlier R3 gearboxes had synchromeshes made out of chocolate, or at least they might as well have been, given how long they lasted. Most of these would have been reworked by Mazda, free while the car was under warranty, but only in response to problems being reported by the owner. If yours is an...

For those not familiar with the term a "ghetto-decat" is the original OEM cat, only with the insides knocked out, so it looks the same but just isn't a cat.
