Re: The KRS thread....

It's possible that those poor compression numbers are just a result of bad combustion and a build-up of carbon in all the wrong places.

In which case, a good set of ignition stuff and an Italian decoke could do it the world of good

Re: RX8 Prodrive Eibach Coil Springs

FYI there are no compatible Eibach springs available from stock. The OC had to contract Bilstein/Eibach to produce another production run of both the struts and the springs, back in 2018. These mainly went directly to members as per the Group Buy though some were retained for the Club Shop, those th...

Re: Living with a rotary - 6 Years in

Curious to know, if the battery had gone flat while parked-up, does the power steering work okay now?

We still don't know the exact cause but this would be a prime candidate, based on other reports, for a major issue with the power steering ecu.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Another "possible" to add to the list would be a dying fuel pump or a loose fuel pump fuse. Cars that have a history of "flooding" - which may have be actual flooding or not - that have been "fixed" by someone with little knowledge, can have their fuel pump fuse pulled ...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

The most common Hot Start issue is just the PCM being confused by the difference in the air temp in the heat-soaked intake, compared with what then gets sucked in from outside - the result is longer spin before firing or rough running immediately after starting. The compression hot start issue means...

Re: Oil can light coming on - OMP disabled ?

Limp mode is a very specific PCM operation, which is different to just "engine down on power". When related to the OMP, the PCM assumes that the OMP is only delivering the minimum dosage and therefore limits the engine operation revs/load to that where it would select minimum dosage, which...

Re: Oil can light coming on - OMP disabled ?

Yes - an OMP fault would put the car into Limp mode, but that's not relevant to the Oil Warning light.

Re: Oil can light coming on - OMP disabled ?

No - there's no connection, physically or logically between the oil light and the OMP. Neither does the OIl light put the engine into limp mode. If the oil level is correct then the sensor in the sump has failed, either through age or impact, and needs to be replaced, or the wire has got trapped/sho...

Re: Fake Receipts

It's got to be 30+ years since I've heard of a car with fake receipts, though it used to be rife. It became easier when people had access to photocopiers, which was how most of them were produced back then. These days it's way easier to make fake paper receipts but also much easier to check them out...

Re: Ignition lead shield to beat the floods

If grease causes the lead to work loose then it's only the rubber that's holding, while the connector must be loose, which is a bad thing that can cause misfires, rough running and potentially failure of the attached coil. The rubber should be a weather-proof seal but not too tight a grip, and it sh...

For future reference, it's all in here , when you choose Troubleshooting rather than Workshop Manual, then RESTRAINTS >> DTC TABLE.

You get the high-level description of the fault, then a click-thru to the individual causes, with connector pin-outs etc.

Re: Body repairs and panel replacement

I'm assuming, had the owner gone through his insurance, or the 3rd parties insurance, that they would have costed based on all new body panels and the car would have been written-off. Looking at the damage, he was very lucky that the roof skin wasn't creased, or the windscreen frame distorted, as th...

The "project" is now up and working, which was easier than expected, and much of the credit should go to Vinod. I've created a ADS-B ground station to the FlightRadar24 network, to help fill-in a grey spot for aircraft approaching Belfast City Airport from the east, along the Belfast Lough...

I wouldn't let any Mazda dealer loose on my car, unless it's unavoidable such as Recalls. Even then I take a copy of all the related documentation and walk them through the process, before I hand them the keys. I waited nearly two years before I took mine in for the fuel tank and lower suspension ar...

Re: WTB - R3 wheel arch passanger side in sparkling black

If Boston Rotary doesn't have one it's worth calling your local dealership. Last time I checked they were still selling painted body panels, surprisingly. Mazda only offer the R3 front wings unpainted @ between £293.17 and £297.57 depending on exact VIN ; differences are described as "W/SIDE-S...
