Re: Flywheel
The Mazda oem manual flywheel has a balance weight built in to the rim, which is much thicker one side than the other, to balance the weight offset of the rotors on the eccentric shaft. flywheel.jpg This is a very clever design as it creates maximum angular momentum for the minimum static weight - 2...

AutoArt 1:64 Scale RX-8 in Pearl White RHD - SOLD
From the same source as the other models recently listed (a closed-down shop) this model is 1:64 scale rather than 1:72, so slightly larger. Still in its unopened presentation case with an unmarked card sleeve. 20231130_151134.jpg 20231130_151121.jpg #20274 has been out-of-production since 2012. Alt...

Would be great, for a 1.6 MX-5

No experience with that seller but be aware that the landed cost could* be £499 + £100 VAT + £60 Import Duty + £16 carrier duty collect fee, so that's £675 to you  *could because some of those numbers depend how the seller describes the product on the invoice, could be more, could be (slightl...

V Nice.
The combination of that colour and spoiler rings a bell, from years ago, but not that reg.
Is there anything in the history that suggests that she might have been on a private plate?

For all the times people have diagnosed "a warped disc" I haven't seen one that was actually warped, since the 1970's. It's just not a thing anymore, especially with oem vented discs. Even the massive runout that was demonstrated to me, later proved to be a lump of rust trapped between dis...

I'm curious as to how you're planning to mount the starter motor.
The mount, and the starters themselves, are very different with Mazda's manual vs auto powertrains.
This car really needs it's own project thread...

I managed to change my header tank without breaking the plastic barb, on my '04 Angry Wasp© a few years ago. Only that was for "a good used one" from a much later car, that wasn't meant to have the same issues, only the problem came back last year and I have a new tank on the shelf, waitin...

Re: Harry's GL04 MXU Project Banana!
If you're planning to replace the radiator, get yourself some Armaflex from your local commercial AC supplier, as this is way better than the original stuff, that will have crumbled away, to stop the cooling air bypassing the rad core.

Why "Galaxy"?
It's a Red car, while RX8's also come in Galaxy Grey
I'm confused (which isn't difficult)

Who did the steering wheel? (Royal?) As they've made a nice job of it.
What offset are those wheels?
It's a pity about the kerbing though you should be able to tidy them up a bit with a Dremal and some paint.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
If your brakes are getting that hot then the piston seals are probably cooked. When the seals harden they no longer deform as the line pressure increases. It's only the recovery from this deformation that pulls the piston back in away from the disc when you lift off the pressure. The result is a sig...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Going through pads at that rate makes me wonder what discs you're using. I've moved away from drilled discs as I've had one crack, typically on the backside so only visible after the disc is removed, and currently running MTEC dimpled with curved slots, though these make "scuff-scuff" nois...

Re: Corrosion: cross member below battery housing.
If you do go ahead with this, please take lots of photos and add some words for a DIY "How To" posting. These repair panels were added to the Electronic Parts Catalogue a while ago but we've not had any details of anyone using them, as others have used the cross member recovered from scrap...

Took her for MOT today. The first date we could find on the schedule, looking a couple of weeks ago, was sometime in mid-February next year and that wouldn't have been a problem, only the Tax is due at the end of the month. All the systems here in NI recognise the issue with MOT bookings, we even ge...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
The symptoms, wide-scale electrical madness, suggest a common cause. So if it's still not right with a new battery, put a jump lead between the battery negative terminal and the engine block. If this makes a difference then the issue is a corroded earth, probably the main one down on the cross-membe...

In that case I wonder if one (or more) fuel injectors isn't shutting off properly, causing it be over-fuelling under those conditions, which might be less obvious as the revs increase.

Re: Sucky, rattly noise, low RPM, under load?
I've just re-read this thread and I think I can see why others haven't had this issue.... The clue is in the Subject "...low RPM, under load" The Renesis engine doesn't like load at low rpm, ever. If you want to add load, then drop a gear and increase revs first. Okay, this response may so...

Plus, an oily MAF doesn't result in a CEL, as the PCM has know way of knowing.

Re: Cooling problem
When you fitted the radiator did you replace the foam rubber seals around the outside? I don't know which seals you mean. Can you show in a photo? [/quote] There should be foam rubber that frames the radiator, so there's no gaps between it and where it's mounted, bottom and sides. Many owners repla...
