Re: d585 coils (or similar) to borrow for test

The leading coils don't spark when turning on the starter, at least for the first few seconds.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Had the cable been routed wrong, so it wouldn't reach, or was it an aftermarket cat with the sensor mount in a different place?

Even if you can't afford a rebuild, I hope this goes complete to someone that can, rather than being broken.

Re: Clive's 520 BHP Super GT RX-8 Race Car

@Clive I noticed in the Mallory race that you were driving with the passenger window open. How much does this compromise the aero? Back when I was working at Ford they did some tests on a Focus and discovered that, at speeds above 46 mph (iirc) running the a/c produced less parasitic drag than havin...

The way battery technology is going, I wonder how long it will be before we have affordable cordless TIG welders.

Not sure if you took them Dave or it was a combination of Ian and Crissy using the Camera that day :P
You're correct, those were Ian's, taken on his D60.

I was using a D80 for stills but mainly taking video that session

Re: Wrapping up

I think theres a reason its there... It just seems an odd thing to map the car as standard for.. But yeah it wouldnt be hard to map it out. Especially if you're planning an FI application. :p Many cars (and bikes) have a flat spot at exactly the revs that noise and gas emissions are tested for type...

Re: Honkytonk's Black P-Shed

I know it's stating the obvious but make sure that the DSC/TCS is fully disabled for the runs. It's so easy just to get out-of-sequence and end up switching the engine off, while sorting the tie-down straps etc, having previously disabled the TCS and forgetting that it resets the next re-start. I'm ...

You really want a 231 Winning Blue Front Bumper, as a 192 won't have the holes/fittings for the headlight washers.

I can't get this out of my head https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOGhuhC4AF0 Nearly as bad as me driving my Alfa into the back of a 45Ton artic, using two lengths of Armco as rams, and trying to stop before hitting both our bikes that had already been loaded and parked broadside half-way-down, with a...

There's a whole bunch of things is *could* be, and "compression" wouldn't be top on my list of suspects.

Re: The end?

You need to get a compression test, as compression could be the issue, but so could dying coils, fuel pump, spark plugs, ESS (Eccentric Shaft Sensor), IAT (Intake Air Temperature Sensor)

Even if it is compression then it's got to be worth a rebuild, being a 40th Anniversary.

Re: Diff braces/mounts

What's the rear alignment like?
Especially on a dyno, it only takes a slight toe in/out to send the rear of the car sideways.
You can also get some tyre wind-up on the dyno unless you increase the pressures.
Rear tramp is more likely to be mismatched spring rate and damping, rather than a diff issue.

Is your car pre-2005?
Has it had the front suspension recall done?
Was the damage a result of this recall work?

It that a brittle failure just at the edge of the heat-affected area from the weld, or is there another ground-down weld at that point?
