Re: Nitrous bottle position

:whathesaid:

I am not 100% but I think a lot of motorsport governing bodies require Nitrous Bottles to be mounted separate from the passenger area or with some form of partition between them and the people. They're a bit spicy if they get too hot.

Re: RX8 now...... but whats your car history?

I posted in this thread like 12 years ago, so I figured I'd update it with all the stuff since then (there's quite a bit) 1963 Land Rover Series IIA SWB Ford Fiesta Seats, rebuilt the engine myself, still runs apparently, sold because of MPG that would make an RX8 blush. 1989 Austin Rover Maestro 1....

Re: Will66's Silver RX8 Fast Road/Track Mods now known as #project66

Whilst you can scale tables and such to get the stock ecu to achieve the potential, I kinda want to try an aftermarket ecu just because I can. I have never spent much on making my car pretty and shiny so I might as well get the good bits under the bonnet. :)

I know it could work but I quite fancy the new ecu for a number of reasons.

Re: Will66's Silver RX8 Fast Road/Track Mods now known as #project66

I'm aware of the trade offs between N/A and FI. I think boost on something with big ports would be really flat until 6000 rpm then be all kinds of suddenly really fast. The engine going in at the moment will remain N/A. I want to see what happens with a lot of toys thrown at an N/A Renesis at the cu...

Re: Will66's Silver RX8 Fast Road/Track Mods now known as #project66

Interesting, I've not played with it personally and the Adaptronic has advantages in terms of future proofing further modifications, for instance if I consider some form of FI.

Re: Will66's Silver RX8 Fast Road/Track Mods now known as #project66

In terms of the spec on the car now and what’s happening going forward, much of the original stuff on the car remains. So suspension and brakes are as before. The work’s in the motor, which I will go into more detail on once I drive it. It’s not stock by a long way though. The suspension is getting ...

Re: Will66's Silver RX8 Fast Road/Track Mods now known as #project66

Engine post-mortem conducted.

Verdict: side seals on one side of the front rotor were in many more pieces than they should be. The rest of the motor was actually in pretty good shape, pre-mixing regularly seemed to have kept carbon build up okay, particularly on the exhaust ports.

Re: Will66's Silver RX8 Fast Road/Track Mods now known as #project66

The problem with "a race car" isn't so much with the cost of the modifications themselves, although having seats, cages, belts, etc that are within spec and date, can cost more than the car. The biggest problem is logistics. Race cars aren't (in the main) road-legal, which means you either need a t...

Re: Will66's Silver RX8 Fast Road/Track Mods

If it was a pet the RSPCA would have rescued it sooner and prosecuted Will for cruelty [-X , fortunately it is only his RX8 and it is currently fostered out to a good home for the forseeable future, until it's owner gives it some TLC and retrieves it and promises to give it a good home. ...

Re: Will66's Silver RX8 Fast Road/Track Mods

Well, it has been almost 7 years since the RX8 has seen natural light. Life gets in the way of car projects. However, this year will be the year. Watch this space if you’re interested. If not, good day to you! :)

Re: Will66's Silver RX8 Fast Road/Track Mods

Well it has been 4 and a bit years since my RX8 saw the light of day. Life kinda got in the way of this project, but I think it needs to live soon. I shall keep this up to date as soon as it does!

Re: Project H, with LC Rotary and ProjectRX8

I think you'd have to experiment with an rx8 by advancing the ignition timing to see if you got the same or very similar result as to running the HHO system.

Re: Project H, with LC Rotary and ProjectRX8

I think I have an idea of what might be going on based on what has been said from the results of the dyno tests. I think the small amount of hydrogen being produced is igniting quicker than the petrol and causing the petrol to ignite faster. That would account for the gains in the RX8 test. The reas...

Also, why is the AFR showing a normal level?

Perhaps the EGTs would be interesting?

Re: Project H, with LC Rotary and ProjectRX8

With the small quantities that are being added to the intake by the system, a lean condition is the likely method of seeing the increase in power, particularly coupled with the increased temperature. The question is how much it is leaning it out and if this could cause problems.

Others that have used these tyres have found them to be similar to regular trackday tyres. As they are second hand they've already given their best grip on the special stage.

Re: mini-turbo

The problem with a small turbo is that it could limit power, if it doesn't flow enough air at high rpm it will limit power, a bigger turbo that spools quickly ought to give it the best outcome.

Re: rx7 engine swap.

Talk to Powergains Motorsport, they're the guys that sorted most of the wiring up of Clive's car. Essex Rotary have helped too. To retain the functionality of the RX8 they used an Adaptronic ECU with the RX8 PCM controlling the RX7 motor. This caused a lot of headaches but once they got it going it ...

Re: ****GreySilver Beast III****

 It was a remark I made about the GT86 being the car young Nigel hung onto for the longest after his first RX8. As you can see from the above list, our Nige swaps his cars more frequently than most people change their trainers and it intrigued me as to why, clearly it's quite the machine to kee...
