Re: Scuff Guard Clips and Spoiler Clip

Ok - I am there with all of the clips, less this bugger - Strangest clip I have seen. I think it connects the plastic lower spoiler to the lower chassis member

Re: Suspensions Bushes

I was very lucky and found a set or rear arms (less the lateral links) from a seller in USA, Texas. I took a punt and to be fair they were absolutely immaculate (may be the lack of humidity) but the seller did say that they came from a low milage car. The cost was not prohibitive but postage and imp...

Re: Drive shaft grease type

Going to expand on greasing, I have the rear hubs off and wondering if there is any kind of preventative maintenance that can be carried out on the rear wheel bearings. I am going to assume nil as they are sealed but wondering if anything can be done whilst I have them dismantled.

Re: Front and Rear Bush are inspection - renewal

Ok - I had a bit of playing around with the resistance of the rear suspension bushes. I set up a measuring board, strain gauge, rule and did some deflection readings to try and come up with a list of measurements that can be referred to. IMG_3728.JPG These are not new bushes but it would be useful i...

Drive shaft grease type

Hi - I am refurbing the rear drive shafts and the amounts are noted in the workshop schedule by not the type of grease. There is a reference to MT and AT I am assuming this refers to the transmission type. The amounts are not that clearly shown on the diagrams but as the meaures have quite a toleran...

Rust removal

During part of the refurb of my 8 I have looked at quite a few methods of removing rust from items, bolts and other items - sorry cannot help myself at times. I have looked at differing methods with quite a bit of success and surprises in some areas. For those difficult to reach areas I have plumped...

Front and Rear Bush are inspection - renewal

Hi, I have removed the front and rear suspensions as part of a refurb and looked at a lot of the differing bush replacements, quite a view of mixed reviews on what is best. My question is when does a bush need to be replaced as there is nothing in the service manuals of inspections/tests etc - only ...

Can I clarify which suspension bushes you are referring to in regards to this piece of work and how this differs between front and rear?

Yes, I did. No recall (mentioned) for any suspension component.

Not saying that I have a solution but........ I am finishing off a full front end rolling stock rebuild and I may look to complete the rear in the very near future. If you are going to purchase another set of the opposite side that you are missing, I may ask you to get double again and I will then l...

Can I clarify the waxoiling of the oil lines, whilst I like things new and shiny if the outer stainless steel mesh is not a factor, more than happy to cover mine in liberal quantities

Re: Rusty RX-8

Depends where the corrosion is to be honest. Not sure how the corrosion gets under the paint to start the bubbling but I would treat th3 inner lining with a acf 50 and then go at the external bubbling by taking it back to bare metal and painting. Need a clean base for painting so acf may not work on...

Re: Rusty RX-8

Road salts can attack aluminium alloy and it's best to treat while it's still cosmetic. So how do you teat it? Get in the pros? Have two rear doors from me? Slight colour difference! For anything Alu I use ACF50, avionics use it a lot on airframes. Brilliant at protecting alu but also other metals....

Re: Rusty RX-8

I have a similar issue on my suicide doors and bonnet. I am looking to treat the internal structures with ACF 50 and then concentrate on the cosmetic bubbling later. I was surprised with the level of corrosion though.
