How's this been going? Any updates?
How negative would it be if all of the ports were open all of the time (trying to save space for instance)? Presumably the power/driveability difference is greater the lower down the rev range you are?

Mine runs on that CTEK setup also. I put one of those connectors in all the cars at the start of lockdown seeing as they don't get much use anymore! Then I just cycle the charger between them...

Re: Potential Owner
Well im glad you have a positive review for me. If you dont mind me asking when did you have your engine rebuilt and how many miles have you run on it since. So absolutely no issues? Also if you know what were your compression test before and after The guy I bought mine off bought it from Rotary Mo...

Re: Potential Owner
Presumably the trader was confident enough that they could buy the car, get it rebuilt and get it sold whilst making enough profit to make it worthwhile.
I've not had any issues with my Rotary Motion rebuild, so on a sample size of 1, they must be reputable

Re: Gearbox Weights
I had a 5 speed box on the mx5 (rx8 231 engine) and it was horrendous. Completely the wrong gearing. I was doing 88mph in 2nd gear at 8k rpm. It was falling off the power band and completely ruined the car. I'd stick with 6 speed if your diff ratio is similar to mx5 nc (3.9:1) I've got 3.6, 3.9 and...

Re: Gearbox Weights
Thanks both, the ratios I was sat on the fence on (I'd be using 4th frequently on track with the 6 speed, but rarely with the 5), but hadn't considered that the internals of the 5 speed would effectively cancel out the weight of the 6 speed. I think I'll go with the 6...

Is the 5 speed lighter than the S1 6 speed does anyone know?
I'm undecided which to use in the Westfield. The 5 speed ratios may be a bit long, but with just over half a ton to shift it might not be such an issue.
Uncle Google is not being conclusive

Re: Brake disk dilemma
I've got MTec discs on my Westfield which have put up with a lot of high speed hard braking and not put up a fuss. Also on the RX-8 which has put up with road use fine, though that's not exactly taxing. They're on the MX-5 too but I've only driven that 80 miles so probably not fair to comment!

1. Have you received this recall notice? 2. Have you had the work completed? 3. If you have had the recall completed, which dealership did the work and roughly when? 4. If you have received the recall and not had the work done, what is your reason? 5. If you have had the work done, have you experien...

Re: Hello from a prospective owner
I was in a similar position and indeed was looking for an MX5 at the time. The one I wanted sold before I could get to see it, and there wasn't really anything else around that I liked. I decided to try an RX-8 and see what the hype was all about... I'd run it around for a few months then get someth...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
After being MOT'd last month, I taxed the PZ today and treated it to being actually used. A bit bittersweet, as it also means it's getting close to the time it needs to be sold to put some cash into the wedding fund (unless the government save me by keeping them restricted for a few more months!). I...

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies - Pros and Cons
I agree - I think something to seal it against the bonnet would be suitable from a noise and heat perspective. So like the enclosed box there (Caterham one?), but the bonnet becomes the top and side face of it.

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies - Pros and Cons
I don't think I'd go back over the engine unless I needed the length. In my head, I'd look to emulate where it all ended up when I fitted bike throttle bodies to the MX5 engine: https://mazdafield.files.wordpress.com/2015/04/p4040018_s.jpg I think it would be further towards the left hand side than ...

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies - Pros and Cons
The vent isn't wide enough, the intake manifold would be on one side of the vent, the throttle on the other.
Slightly old photo but I have this bonnet:

So my bonnet and nosecone are one piece and it's a flip front

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies - Pros and Cons
Definitely! I'm irrationally fond of my bonnet though. I did have the project priced up to change from my current bonnet to a separate nosecone and bonnet that could be humped (ahem)… but now I man mathing that cost towards throttle bodies.

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies - Pros and Cons
No not dry sump. This is where the modified sump of the MX5-engine sat: https://mazdafield.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/p7260359_s.jpg If I fitted the engine so the OEM inlet manifold was just shy of the bonnet, the RX-8 sump would be slightly lower than that, by about 20mm. It would be very prone to...

Individual Throttle Bodies - Pros and Cons
It doesn't seem to have been covered much, and that's probably because the OEM intake system is pretty good, but in order to fit the engine into my Westfield the way I want to fit it, I need to lose around 60mm of height... and that means losing the standard setup. That leaves me with two options - ...

Re: My Westfield - with Mazda content

Seems like it will fit, eventually! I've had the crazy idea of making my car less powerful, use more fuel, make more noise and rarely work anyway. But that engine or one like will make the Westfield better, I'm sure!

That's getting ridiculously cheap! Live axle should be ok as it tends to be lighter than the IRS cars (mine is a bit of a fatty). Is there any risk it will have to be broken?
