Re: Flat spot on Kuro 2

The mileage is unknown on the engine as it was a donor bought to ressurect Kuro 2. Being parked up for a while hasn't helped though.

Re: Flat spot on Kuro 2

This is what i found whilst i was trying to remove it. I actually got it to turn freely, But decided to replace it anyway with a spare that i had cleaned up previously. By removing it completely it gave me a chance to clean up the bore as well. Hope this helps.

Re: Flat spot on Kuro 2

Hello all, went for a blast this morning and full power is now resumed, goes like stink. The only issue is a small coolant leak by the stat somewhere, hardly surprising given the amount of hoses in there. The upside is,i now know in which order to do things to get to it quickly. Annoyingly i was toying...

Re: Flat spot on Kuro 2

Yes Alistair,i have piccies of the one i removed but will have to wait for my lad to upload them, being the dinosaur that i am. As a matter of interest, what air the gains from having air pump delete, apart from weight and space? . As i managed to not break anything,i now have the choice of either or,i...

Re: Flat spot on Kuro 2

Well,Kuro 2 breaths properly again. i have full power all the way up and the problem was indeed the ssv. It was absolutely jammed solid. The hardest part by far was removing the 2 10mm nuts from the hard pipe by the manifold,as they were rusted to hell. thank goodness for my dremel with a flexi shaf...

Re: Flat spot on Kuro 2

So,having spoken to PaulAV, i have found that the ssv is frozen solid despite using quite a bit of force. as i have a spare engine on the bench ,i do know that it should move manually with no more than finger pressure. It seems that to reach it to remove it,i am going to have to take off quite a few...

Re: Flat spot on Kuro 2

Ssv issue, first check by hand if it will move freely, if it does then check the small vacuum pipes that join to it and the upper intake manifold (look for splits and any that are loose, including the 2 service nipple's that may have either a pipe and T piece or just a cap as any lose of vacuum wil...

Flat spot on Kuro 2

Good day all, hope you are all fine. Kuro 2 has developed a flat spot at between 4.5 to 6.5k revs when accelersting hard. It is fine up to 4.5,and really kicks back in after 6.5, so this tells my novice mind that something is not doing it's job properly. I would be very grateful for any hints or tips...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Pulling up sharply seemed to be the worst time, sometimes it would recover, but mostly it stalled. also, the oem flywheel was about 15 kg and it went down to about 8.5kg ,and i don't know for sure whether the idle speed was correct in the first place, however lightening the flywheel was well worth the ...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

one thing i noticed when i had the flywheel lightened and balanced in my capri 2.8 was that in traffic it wasn't very good at idling. i realise that we are talking different engines, but what i did was raise the idle by about 150rpm,but the throttle response was almost instant, and slowing down throug...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

While your engine is out you would only be paying for the clutch itself, installing it would be part of a rebuild any way,new or not.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

If your oil level is correct ,then i don't think a small leak would affect oil pressure,i personally think that this is too important an issue to continue driving it until it's sorted, for your own peace of mind, good luck, rob.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

If i were you,i would stop driving it straight away until you have eliminated the problem. The fact that the light only goes off at pretty high rpm could be a bit more serious than a dodgy sensor,i think i would like to know quickly. I also think that having the same light receiving 2 signals is a b...

Re: soggy rear arch liners

Thanks Dave, obviously i will have to see how it pans out,and unlike some, this car is very much a kept dry car. As you now know, having a car lift is key, meaning we can do this work easily, btw, have you used yours yet?

Re: soggy rear arch liners

So,i decided to have another go at tackling this issue and think i have found a solution that works for me,that's not to say it is the only method. The issue that came about as a result of leaving the liners out was, that although the front cill area was as clean as it ever was, leaving them out altog...

Re: Changing lower front arms

Well ,it seems my knock has disappeared after a good spin this morning. Although i can't attribute it to any particular bush, they were all showing signs of significant wear, but the most surprising was that although the knock was definetly coming from the passenger side, the drivers side rear bush had...
