Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Got the car to the garage today to get the coolant leak checked. One of the clips rusted away, got that replaced and sorted. Happy days. Starting to do my research on my rebuild and going to send some feelers out. Planning it for March, thinking of HME and TPS mainly. One vote for TPS from me. 3500...

Re: Flat spot on Kuro 2
Ok tell a lie, it looks like they also replaced 3 solenoids as part of this but I seem to remember them only mentioning the SSV sticking. It seems I also had an engine light..... cannot remember the code but if it comes to me I'll let you know. Hope some of this is useful in diagnosing your issue.

Re: Flat spot on Kuro 2
This sounds exactly like mine v rex Before I was wise enough to use specialists I had Mazda do it. I remember nothing was replaced it was mostly labour, and they simply cleaned the gunk out of the SSV. Once kids are in bed in a bit I'll hunt out the page where they described the work to see if it g...

Re: Flat spot on Kuro 2
Not that you need it but another vote for something SSV related. When my SSV was full of gunk a few years back, on acceleration the revs slowed down at just over 4k and then i think at just under 6k suddenly went back to normal speed up to the redline. Just a period of slowness in rev build up which...

Re: SLK55
Interesting. A friend of mine was telling me E90 M3's were rising and were a good investment buy. He also mentioned the 996 turbo being a good choice as well.
Well done on the buy. I think I remember the Top Gear episode where Clarkson reviewed the SLK AMG and then i think bought one himself?

Re: Replica pz center caps
I've received mine as well. Thanks Kevin. They are really high quality and side by side compared to the original one unused one I have, if I'm honest the original now looks a bit duff..... I'm now debating getting caps done for my other PZ alloys, but I do need to stop spending money on the rex.... ...

Re: Is the rx8 a 10/10ths car?
Agreed when you're 90Kg and the kart is 30 Kg and you're up against 50 Kg opponents its can detract from the event somewhat I've long been in favour of a simple ballast system to equalise this a bit So the series I do Club 100 does have minimum weights for each class. So in the races I do heavyweig...

Re: Is the rx8 a 10/10ths car?
I distinctly remember taking a few drivers out who were trying to overtake me and ending up facing the wrong way, stalled and needing a mobile track marshall person to drive up behind me, lever the kart in the air and bump start the damn thing. Hmmm, that sounds like you were using clutchless karts...

Re: Is the rx8 a 10/10ths car?
I once went go-karting at a track in Kent. The karts seemed to be 125cc or 250cc motorcycle engines welded to an angle iron frame with a plastic school chair with its legs snapped off welded to the frame. Most of the fellas there were seriously into it with the Sparco romper suits and soft soled sh...

Great footage Alan. That Terminal Velocity car just caught up to me at the wrong time and I'd lost all my momentum so I thought I'd let you by, but had I know you were filming I would have fought harder and stayed in front to get some vid time!. Was behind you for all of that last session, need to g...

Great write up v-rex, no dont think we met ,but to be fair i was keeping my distance from most people due to being my mothers carer and i cant afford to catch Covid (and pass it on to her as shes too frail) ,not saying you guys have it..! so apart from a brief chat with Nigel i just stuck with the ...

Re: ***TRACKDAY Donington GP Circuit - Friday 18th December SOLD OUT***
Hi me again, The kids are in bed so I can finally talk about this properly. So in the rush to get ready for this day, I didn't even get a chance to look at a track guide for this track. Luckily the other driver with me, Will, knew the track well and taught it to me quickly. For the sighting lap and ...

I didn't realise you were videoing Alan. I wouldn't have let you by, so I could have been the centre of the shoot ! Hopefully I got in some of your footage. Apologies again for Will flashing you and trying to get by. He was determined to overtake that McLaren as he wanted to show that guy what a pan...

That being said I'll wait to see if Nigel says I am allowed to come..... I think that would make me the most sad, as I have been really looking forward to this. If you are referring to "Little Old Me" :snog: , then I couldn't care too hoots, as this is an Outdoor Sporting Event, hence why Javelin s...

I've never insured any of my RX-8s. Maybe if they appreciate a bit more then I'll reconsider. My FD was insured, and I'm certainly glad that it was given that I made a £15k claim Sent from my IN2013 using Tapatalk Ouch. £15k. You can get 6 RX-8's for that !! I do love the RX-7 though, such a beauti...

Re: ***TRACKDAY Donington GP Circuit - Friday 18th December SOLD OUT***
I'm leaning towards just taking the risk and if it turns out to be fatal for the rex, then I take the hit financially, and at least the car died doing what it loved, rather than dying from rust or carbon from being stuck in traffic in the boring roads we have these days... That's my view exactly. D...

Re: ***TRACKDAY Donington GP Circuit - Friday 18th December SOLD OUT***
Thanks guys, I think it seems a bit pricey to me, but then again apparently I am a track day noob, as I haven't done one for 10 years so i think that upped the premium a bit. I also said I would do about 200 miles on track, but no idea what mileage I would actually do, so not sure how that affected ...

So more prep... 1) I called Javelin and told them that London is going into tier 3 and the guy on the other side was fairly nonchalant about it and said we are going ahead as long as you take all the right precautions ... so does anyone know if I shouldn't come to this anymore ? Good choice on the lacquer. I know the plastic layer peeling off on the originals was one of the reasons why they looked so duff after a little while.
Looking very good.

Going off topic here but "automatic handbrakes" are among my pet hates and should be banned. I really like my electronic handbrake on my cx-5. :o I guess I've not tried on snow etc but it's nice that releases when needed. The car also holds the brake for 3 seconds on a hill so makes it easier to la...

Thanks guys. I've taken a day off before Donington to get the car prepped, and it sounds like I have a few configurations to try! I'm probably going to order some tyre covers for seat protection during transport and to protect them from dust in the garage whilst they are being stored during the cold...
