Re: Keeping busy during lockdown

Hi Dave, I replied to your message but it seems it got lost in the ether somewhere! I did mark the old steering joint but as it was replaced I had to guess a little lining up the new one. It seems there should be someway to protect the steering UJ and engine mount from the manifold heat. I looked at...

Air box rubber bung thingy

Hi all, thought I'd fit the air box back today and noticed one of the 4 rubber bangs that support it was missing. Looking at the state of the hole it was probably missing before I took it apart. Anyone have one going cheap?
Thanks.

Re: Surrey/Berks/North Hants/SW London Wednesday 15th July ***6.30pm***

Hi Nigel, My car is still in a few bits, actually more than a few :crybaby: . My mate is turning some bits of metal for me on Monday so I can push the bushes into the lower control arms. IF this gets done, maybe I can finish the car next week. :thumright: If not, I might pop along on the bike (weath...

Re: WTB : sat nav housing/tablet conversion

I started a little project about 2 years ago, my how time flies. I was going to install a Raspberry Pi to drive the screen and then use an app to display my phone screen onto the Raspberry Pi screen, Then as long as my phone was up to date so would what was on my car screen. Well that was the plan. ...

Re: Keeping busy during lockdown

If you have ever wondered what the inside of a clock spring looks like after your grandson sat in the car playing racing drivers with the steering rack removed. Well something like this I would guess. Big thanks to Chris for rescuing the situation with a replacement. :thumright:

Re: Keeping busy during lockdown

Another package arrived today so now I have a nice new steering joint fitted. Reading through the technical section it says I need to get something reset after taking things apart. Another thing ticked off the list and another thing added. :D

Had a nice package arrive from RRP this week. Some new engine mounts to replace mine. The passenger side was still ok but the drivers side was showing signs of rubbing.

Re: Keeping busy during lockdown

The original heat shield was falling to bits and hanging down. I've used this silvered cloth before to line the underside of motorcycle tanks. Will have to keep an eye on it to see how it survives being closer to an exhaust.

Re: Keeping busy during lockdown

Fitted the RRP decat after work today. Saving on commute time is great for projects. As expected, the new doughnut seal didn't fit so thanks to those that warned me I'd need to modify the thing.
Looks nice and shiny for now but I guess UK weather will see to that.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Thought I'd have a go at fitting the RRP decat I bought quite some time ago. The Toyo pipe, on the car when I bought it, must be smaller as the doughnut seal wouldn't fit. New one on order so hope that fits, Decided to fit the braided clutch line instead. Bit of a fluff to bleed but all done and yet...

My UJ didn't feel that bad. It wasn't until I took it off I realised how badly worn the insides must be to feel so lumpy.
Ordered a new one 4 weeks ago but it is still on back order. The MX5 club was also out of stock.

good opportunity to check the clutch and cooler lines before they fail...clean and paint the engine to go with the manifold bling.
Might as well drop the subframe and send that off to the powder coaters...... from little acorns.....

I find my bikes run a bit rough after neglecting them for a long time. Fresh fuel and an Italian tune up does wonders for them.

Some random pics of other bits added or removed from the car. Here's me crawling around the car with less than an inch to spare (I need to go on a diet) and you have a step ladder to get to the bonnet [emoji1787][emoji23][emoji1787] Many years ago I changed the gearbox on my Sunbeam Rapier converti...

Re: Keeping busy during lockdown

Today I actually started putting things on rather than take them off. I kind of gave up on the wire brushing of the rear sub-prime. I couldn't get it to a standard I'd be happy with while on the car. I'll have to get another sub frame to refurbish and swap out in the future. For now, the bits I coul...

Re: Keeping busy during lockdown

So much for me updating this regularly. Life does tend to get in the way. Thanks to Mad Professor for sending over the replacement crossmember. 2 small patches and as good as new. I'd planned on welding it on myself, but not having a MIG and one of the spot welds being in an awkward position to use ...

Re: Keeping busy during lockdown

It seemed like a good idea while the brakes were apart to have a go at the coilovers. Another box that had been staring at me for some time. Of course a simple out with the old, in with the new wasn't to be. I had a few tins of grey primer and black paint hanging around from a bike project and as th...
