Re: Rx8 as a third car?

Mine is a 5th car so use it pretty infrequently. As I only use it in the summer when it is dry it is far easier to ensure it gets a good run out so in my eyes does it more good than lots of cold starts and shorter journeys. As long as you maintain it and store it somewhere decent, it will be fine :)

If one side has worn out then generally the other side won't be too far behind it.

Re: Engine teardown, do I dare?

I've got a few other engine rebuild projects to do first, but may keep my eyes open for a renesis engine as a spare to do in the future.

Will a rotary engine fit ok on a normal engine stand? I assume as the gearbox end is pretty much the same as a reciprocating engine the answer is probably yes?

Good to know at renewal time then :thumleft: EDIT.. 27/3 .. Re: MOT's extended for 6 months

You can still be prosecuted for driving an unsafe car during the extension period, so it almost sounds like you need to do a short course in motor mechanics just to make sure you can check your own car for the next 6 months! It's a bit farcical imo.

Re: hot start issue....

Rx8s and most modem cars can suffer from heat soak (warm air inside the inlet affects the ecu's fuel trims) sometimes this can result in failure to start first or second time once warm. Just an fyi ive had that once, but that was on a hot day when on track. i left the car for 15 mins to cool a bit ...

I personally wouldn't touch it until the summer. Especially if it's a daily.

You want it clean and bone dry before treating and sealing anything imo.

Re: Bigg Red caliper refurb

I've used bigg red in the past and wasn't impressed. Seals leaked so had to replace them with genuine seals. The finish looked good to begin with but after about 2 years rust started coming though. This was on a car that gets kept in the garage and only comes out on warm dry days. They did offer to ...

Re: Alternative performance direct fit coils?

what i am getting at is that if i asked this same question 2 years ago everyone would say get D585s, which i did. in hindsight i would have gone for genuine mazda coils, but you live and learn! anyway, whos to say that the RRP coils wont start having issues in another couple of years time and everyo...

Alternative performance direct fit coils?

I've noticed a few options appear on eBay recently for direct fit uprated coils for the rx8. The 2 brands I've seen are benchmark and surefire along with a few unbranded made In China "performance" coils. Anyone tried any of these as an alternative to the other options out there? Bearing in mind 2 y...

Re: d585 coils (or similar) to borrow for test

Spark testers put on, and only T1 had a spark. Swapped coils only for T1 and T2, also L1 with L2 and the spark jumped to only T2. Leads stayed in original positions. Then flipped the trailing and leading coils over on the 1st rotor and still only one coil seems to be firing. Harness and leads seem ...

can you not stretch a littel further with the money you want to spend? when i was looking, anything around £2000 was rough imo. i paid a little over the odds for mine (well probably alot tbh) but its been faultless so far!

Re: leave RX-8 sitting for 3 months...advice?

i just pump the tires up to around 45psi and leave the windows cracked (it is inside though). handbrake is left off and i remove the battery. i also leave one of those dehumidifier pots in the car (but this probably isnt as important over the summer for only 3 months) every month or 2 i roll the car...

Re: Values??

A decatted RX8 that does 1000miles a year would produce far less emissions than some 60-70mpg ecobox that does 15000 miles a year. Especially if the manufacturer has been proven to lie. I'm shocked that anybody still considers buying a brand new VW. If the faked figures mean the tax is cheap, most ...

whilst MOT's aren't perfect, if you get caught driving without a valid one, it is only £30 which is cheaper than an MOT!?!? if you get caught without tax, its up to £1000 fine (but would generally be less in most cases, admittedly) the MOT is primarily a check for safety whilst road tax, is simply a...
