Re: rusty sills

Reading this makes me glad I’m getting preventative maintenance done to mine. Having them treated and resealed inside and out.

Unless we finally focus on the amazing power of hydrogen... In which case a lot of already made recipricating engines would be convertible...
Rotaries are already compatible with hydrogen with very little modification. There is the RX8 Hydrogen RE model.

Re: New RX9 engine

Looks like there will be a rotary range extender coming https://www.motor1.com/news/447897/mazd ... -2022/amp/

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the RX9 using a similar setup. Piston engines aren’t going to be popular choices for much longer.

Re: R3 sump needed

I replaced mine recently and it is a different part from th e S1. Just replaced the sump which I believe the S1 you have to replace more of when it needs to be replaced.

No rotary. Disappointing. Probably won’t move onto an RX9 in future if that is the case.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

While pouring over the car looking for broken bits that need replacing (our bigpete is a legend btw :thumleft:), I discovered an unplugged connector by the expansion bottle. If already come across mention of the dodgy level sensor, so it was not a shock at all to find the image of the parthenon lig...

superpro bushes would be a significant downgrade. just something to consider...
I’m not sure that is the case for the SuperPro ones. They have the metal inserts and they have the voids that give it caster control for example. They mimic everything about the OEM bushes.

Re: Premix in engine oil

I’m not aware of any issues with people running Idemitsu, a rotary specific oil. This particular one is fully synthetic. I wouldn’t recommend other oils. No, it's a semi sold as fully synthetic. Oil labelling is a murky place. Bottom of page 2 on the attached data sheet from Idemitsu. It's a semi m...

Re: Premix in engine oil

I saw New Duke posted regarding weights, although the post seems to have mysteriously disappeared :-k... Yeah I decided against leaving the post up. Hope you find a solution that you're happy with. Just to add a clarification. That Idemitsu isn't fully synthetic. It's a semi with a mineral oil base...

We run higher oil pressure in the R3 so this Idemitsu 10w30 is perfect.

The latest Idemitsu bottles are so similar that I’m worried I would do the same. I have some of the red ones left so I would be tempted to top them up with premix.

I think a cardboard box got caught underneath, which then caught fire
Looks like fuel was coming out as well. The fire must have melted a hose.

Re: R3 / S2 Forced Induction

Is there a Calculation/formula to work out the size of the Supercharger needed for a Rotary. I don’t think the MercSLK 230 charger I got hold of isn’t gonna be big enough. Would depend on the type of charger. For a Rotrex. Pressure ratio = (bhp target / current bhp)X1.15 Flow rate = bhp target / 12...

If anything I would say hard race are heavier I think the steel is thicker guage plus you have solid threaded parts.
Surprised to hear that. I saw they were forged and thought they would be lighter than the cast original. I hope my original ones are good enough to restore.

I’m about to get mine sorted out. Mazdas suffer with rust. May have to go hard race if they are too far gone. Are the hard race ones lighter than original?

Re: R3 / S2 Forced Induction

Pardon? so stock a 231 sucks up approx 0.22Kg/sec at full pelt so you need to deliver at least this with a 1.5 pressure ratio the rotrex chargers can do this? you just have to get the gearing / belt pulley sizes right so its spinning quick enough I'm the process of building my own charger conversio...
