Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

TBF I ran 225/40s on R18s for track, and the difference it made to the final drive was almost certainly more significant than a few 100gs saved per corner of weight...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Last figs I found suggested that the PZ wheels were around the 8kg mark (memory seems to say 7.9kg, but I can't remember where I saw it). Deffo lighter than the R3 wheels

The market is changing, when I got mine 3.6 years ago "good" ones were everywhere now good ones are getting rarer to find and the price is slowly creeping up. I was helping hfitz look for his and it was a mission to find a relatively low mileage 231 that you could trust

Re: Buying cheap RX-8 ???

As others have said, cheap RX8s are an oxymoron. If you can find a good shell with a porked engine then that's the best bet. Get it rebuilt to your spec and with a builder you like/ trust and everyone's a winner. Failing that, spend lots of time trying to find one that is both rot-free and good comp...

I'm sure you're aware, but the bonnet and rear door skins are aluminium, so if there's corrosion you may be better off replacing with non-corroded parts rather than trying to repair them :thumleft:

Well, you sound cryptically irksome. My point currently stands based on what you've said. Also, the effort versus reward conversation needs to be had - there is an adequate product out there for 95% of applications and then the AEM coils for those who feel they might be in the 5%... Have you met a g...

What tyres are you running? It could be that the tyres have become stepped/ have saw-tooth wear. It's a funny thing to describe, but it can create a vibration which is akin to a knackered bearing or sometimes bad enough to cause vibrations like you're having. https://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-article/sa...

Re: BMW M235i versus RX8 R3 1 year on

The BMW was something like £18k with the Birds kit another £2.5 or 3k. A lot of money. I sold the RX8 for something like £5k and it was a top notch car. That's kinda what I was getting at, for ~£21k I'd expect it to feel more luxurious, more refined, have more toys and inevitably more power. If tha...

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding this, but in your opening post you said "use BMW coils as they're cheap and easy to source" but then in your second post you pointed out that in your tests the drive failed, and then once you upgraded the mosfet the coil failed? This isn't marketing, it's just a fact, t...

Re: BMW M235i versus RX8 R3 1 year on

This was a very interesting read, although I suppose the biggest factor which wasn't touched upon is the cost. Whilst the BMW comes with more mod-cons, more toys and more power, it is a considerably more expensive car to purchase (and I'd wager maintain as a 2014 M235i will most likely be wanting yo...

As above. Surely the first port-of-call would be to reconnect the sensors you have deemed not-needed as it appears they may well be needed. Likewise, you say it's been ported. Do you have pictures of said ports? Also did you take pictures of the housings and irons before re-using them? It is unlikel...

Ground source heat pumps are a big thing now and you can use solar for energy production and water heating so the extra strain on the grid will be minimal This. We have solar panels and I have a small oil-filled electric radiator that keeps my office nice and toasty and costs us nuffink to run. #Wi...

Mine is loud... I'll just say that.

I'm doing work to reduce volumes.

Driving about on a normal road and normal road speeds then mine is within tolerance. On track I set off a 100db meter at Castle Combe, on drive by with the sound guy about 10-15 metres from track side...

Re: Dr. FrankenRex's Monster! The VR R3 Grimme ælling

Thanks Mark. As said a few posts ago I converted my old 192 to a black headliner and it just makes the cabin feel a much comfier place to be. Couple it with the LED interior lights and it makes the RX8 interior that little bit more up to date. Shows just how well it has aged if you ask me (even the ...

Including time to remove it it probably took about 3 hours.

This doesn't include the time taken to paint the interior plastics to match, though.

The rears are exactly the same process, but instead of just pushing the piston inward you need twist the piston at the same time :thumleft: And if it's missing the holder (which it may be as it could be broken etc.) then a replacement from a breaker would be cheap as chips. The S1 units are the same...
