I won’t need much room!

(Not my car, but an image pinched off eBay. Same colour though!)

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

So thats the end of this thread. LC05VRY has gone to BigPete. Thanks for making that a pain-free process. We have decided to just buy a new car rather than chase another RX8, so we've bought a new 2020 Suzuki Jimny that I can take shooting and wifey isnt scared to drive. If you don't mind, I would v...

That Nemesis is really floating my boat right now but I will be waiting until I’m in the UK before I buy anything else. I need to see it first!

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

An offer for LC05 as it sits right now has been accepted, pending collection etc.

I best decide what I want to do now. :(

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

There is a value crossover point in there somewhere, but I will have to value the used parts before I can work out where that is.

I really like that Nemesis in the For Sale section but I am not buying another one until I can go and view it beforehand!

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

LC05 VRY is officially uneconomical to repair due to rust. This may be why only one sill was replaced - Chris confirmed similar adhesive used on both sideskirts, despite one being removed to replace the sill and the other apparently being 'untouched'. It appears that the seller knew exactly what was...

Re: RX54 My 231

So I made a late night ebay purchase and bought what I affectionately call a "Show Hook" Yeah, definitely don't use it. First time I used mine to tow a fellow member's stranded car it lasted for about 200m before this happened! There is a weak point created by the sharp reduction in diameter,...

RR54 Back to a red

An inexperienced welder is almost guaranteed to blow a hole in thin sheet if they try to weld in a continuous run as it’s so quick to overheat. This will be frustrating and lead to a messy job. Equally, many inexperienced welders put a lot of filler material on top of the parent metal, with little p...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

I had a similar feeling when I received my policy - I sent the full list to my insurers and they chose their own categories for the modifications according to the options available on their system. I can prove I supplied a full list of mods, they supplied the insurance based on this info and the pol...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

You should have argued the plate being in the windscreen as being legal as a temporary measure as it is justifiable to have your plate displayed thusly for a short period of time. I had to check when my front numberplate holder broke and I had no other way of displaying my plate. I assessed that it...

It’s a 3 inch single exit system, on tubular headers. It’s very, very loud.

LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

So the car survived the long journey. I managed to hit the 300 club in both directions - turns out it’s pretty easy to achieve at a consistent (ish) 70mph on a relatively unbroken motorway route. The 400 club must take some serious commitment to careful throttle management. I also got pulled over by...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

Once the sills are done and the cavities protected by spraying the shell will be OK. The rust on all the chassis components potentially makes things look worse than they really are. A good rust killing spray may be all that is required there. I’ve got the fear of the rust monster - the passenger si...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

Unreal how they didn’t find that when they fitted the new sill. Hands up I didn’t even look at that side given that it had the new outer sill! I’m seriously considering my options in regards to getting a decent car. I may have to accept that this shell is beyond saving. There’s rust creeping in to ...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

I’ve raised the front ride height by 17mmbut I haven’t been able to do the rears. There’s now enough clearance to get my hand in between the tyre and the wheel arch but it’s lost a little the ‘nose down’ stance. I’m not that keen on it but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I’d rather be safe and without...

Then do your long journey and then check again.
It will have dropped slightly and settled at about, hopefully, 15mm.

Ranjan.
Thanks Ranjan, I will certainly take that advice and do just that.

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

There are spacers on the front and I really don’t want to take them off if I don’t have to as the wheels are perfect flush with the arch when facing forward.

I’ll raise the front 15mm and go from there I think.

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

I think this could be a little complicated. My fronts are 340 and rears 355 (I like slight downward stance) and never have a problem. However you have to take all the following into account My wheels are 18” Offset is -35mm Wheel width 8” Tyres 235/40/18 You can comfortably get your hand over the t...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

The rears are currently at 325mm and the fronts at 330mm from wheel centre to wheel arch. I want to keep the spacers and just raise the car enough to keep these issues at bay - I was thinking of raising the fronts by 15mm on their own as the standard ride height is described as 360mm rear, 380mm fro...

Re: LC05VRY - 2005 Strato Blue 231

There is immediately a polished area on the new tyre so I’m going to have to adjust the ride height. I’m going on a long journey in it on Friday so it needs to be done today or tomorrow. I would prefer to take it to a specialist and have them sort me out correctly rather than do it myself. Can anyon...
