Re: mazda kit car build (gbs zero) and occasional r3 updates

got a new tool today, a proper riveter for rivets and riv nuts. needed it to fit the rear wheelarches, we put 7 rivnuts into the body and then bolted the wheelarch up with m6 bolts and large flat washers to spread the load. you have to glue on a rubber 'tadpole' trim to sandwhich inbetween the arch ...

Re: mazda kit car build (gbs zero) and occasional r3 updates

got the steering column fitted, what an absolute pain, would have been a lot easier if it was done first before the brake cylinder and piping, gbs had already fitted this so they could finish certain panels for paint. in the end we had to loosen off the clutch master cylinder and cut off as much of ...

Re: mazda kit car build (gbs zero) and occasional r3 updates

today we finished wiring under the rear of the car, put some oil in the diff, and filled and bled the brake fluid. olny had one joint that needed nipping up! rear brakes are all done (see photo) and fuel pump is connected. realised we need some bigger p clips (15mm) to secure the fuel hoses and some...

Re: mazda kit car build (gbs zero) and occasional r3 updates

went to fit the suspension and figured that something was wrong or missing, we had to go up to the factory on saturday morning to sort it out. the shocks that we had been given had the wrong inserts in them. gbs currently buy in suspension from gaz shocks for their kit cars, but make a more expensiv...

Re: mazda kit car build (gbs zero) and occasional r3 updates

after fitting the suspension arms we tacked the hubs. rear hubs - two long bolts to bolt through top and bottom, suspension lower mount will fit onto top bolt. fitted the driveshafts too, went in a lot easier than they came out, just needed a little tap to locate. when we painted the diff we put in ...

Re: mazda kit car build (gbs zero) and occasional r3 updates

fitting the differential was a PAIN in the ass! on a normal kit where you fit the panels yourslef, many people fit the diff first, as everything is out the way and its easy to get in becasue our car was painted, a lot of body panels and the fuel tank had already been rivetted into place, this made f...

Re: mazda kit car build (gbs zero) and occasional r3 updates

all bolts should have 2 - 3 threads showing past the nut. this is an iva test requirement along with things like covering sharp edges, were learning more about whats required as we go along. the car will have to have an 'iva' test before it is legal to go on the road, as i understand it a long and i...

Re: mazda kit car build (gbs zero) and occasional r3 updates

getting the car out of the van and into the garage was a bit of a pain, at the gbs end there was plenty of room and people, and a trolley with wheels on. would definatly recommend getting help to offload it, as it was we managed to put the engine crane on the back end and pull it out. made some tres...
