Re: New safety recall notice - fuel tank

It would be better to get that recall done for the airbags - there's the possible impact on insurance cover to consider.

Re: Brix's R3. 'Blue Magic'

Congratulations! I've had mine since 2009 and in the same colour. No regrets, and still loving the drive. One recommendation that I would make is putting a lighter brake disk and caliper kit on the front - I found a noticeable jounce with the stock Mazda stuff with our corrugated cardboard roads. YM...

Re: Lands End to John O'Groats Rotary Relay Drive. Crazy wild idea

Wouldn’t John O Groats to Lands End give a bit more daylight. Mind you the sunset at John O Groats can be very spectacular! Even on motorways a 60mph average will be difficult by the time slip road speeds and hand overs are factored in but overall yes it is doable I guess. Yes it would - you'd be d...

Re: Lands End to John O'Groats Rotary Relay Drive. Crazy wild idea

Are you sure you've checked the mileage and times correctly for Land's End to John O'Groats? Google maps puts it at a minimum 14 hour drive at road legal speeds.

Top Gear did Land's End to Lowestoft a few years back and only just made it.

Re: Choosing new HT leads

Only concern was it was 540cca battery which could be slightly low for the uprated starter? Was going to replace that but thought it may be leads first I went and checked the car and it is a Varta E23 Blue Dynamic with 70Ah and 630CCA. I do remember slightly over-specifying this at the time :twiste...

Re: Choosing new HT leads

The ignition system in the RX8 is one of the parts of the car that you really do want to get right and keep in good condition. Personally I put Magnecor leads on my RX8 R3 within the first 6 months of purchase at brand new. They're still on the car and running strong. If you've got slow turn over th...

Re: 3rd gear pop-out

Out of curiosity what year R3 is it that you have? Pre 2010 models of R3 had recalls on synchros for the gearbox. If that work hasn't already been carried out it maybe worth while looking into that. If memory serves it was the 5th gear that was having problems with excessive wear - I had the work d...

Someone more knowledgeable will be along in a moment, however that rev range is associated with the second port opening up. Possibly a problem with the fuel injectors being blocked?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Had the Vredestein Ultrac Vorti 225/40/R19 fitted today. Found a good local garage to do the work, and spent a while talking to the owner (who turned out to be a proper car enthusiast).

Oh, and thoroughly enjoyed bedding in the tyres - the blue lines are already gone

Re: Fantastic Tyre Review Test

Well this is a rather timely video. I have 4 old Vredestein Sessanta's on my rex that are due for replacement. About 5 or 6 track days and 10k miles (I've been careful on track - there's still more than 4mm all the way around), and I'm due for replacement soon due to their age. The Vred Ultrac Vorti...

Looking forward to seeing those pics after the work is done - really good to see that you're intent on keeping the car going and applying some TLC. The current shade of your paintwork may also vary from one end/side to the other, especially if it's been parked in the same place for a long time and f...

Re: Gearbox Boffins - UNITE! - Potential R3 Short Shifter?

I fitted one of the R3 short shifters from Axial Flow many years ago. It picked up a bit too much vibration at the higher RPM for my liking, with a very loud bzzzz. Rather than go back to the stock gear stick, I had the spring mount removed from the pivot, and used that to damp the vibration. Destro...

For info the persistent CEL codes will normally reappear after the second drive of the car and the technical manual points to a number of t...

Re: Car has a rough idle on cold start and engine light is ON?

I've just dropped in to visit plas87 after he sent me a PM (I'm still on the original list and local), and run a code scanner: it is a P0301. There's low mpg as well (about 13-14mpg). Had a good chat about the car and as a PZ with ~110k miles and 1 engine rebuild behind it. Hi everyone - long time n...
