Re: Tyre changers and wheels balancers

I've had one of these compressors for 8 years now, it's a proper workhorse and does everything I need in a DIY capacity including running a proper spray gun and a grit blaster. As for the changer and balancer I can't offer much more than encouragement I'm afraid. My balancer was a bargain find on eB...

Re: RX8 Brake Pads

Some cars have a specific procedure to bleed the abs unit if air is allowed to get in, usually involving dealer software so not an unreasonable assumption :)

Re: RX8 Brake Pads

Also, now that I’ve fitted braided lines, I don’t have a way to stop the flow of brake fluid with a clamp. I let my MX-5 likes run dry before, but isn’t there an issue with doing this with a car that has ABS? No problems letting the system drain - there are no ABS specific bleeding notes that I cou...

Nice to meet you Harry! I was watching the rear suspension as I lowered the hoist and wondered when it was going to stop :)

Glad to hear it goes ok with the extra load.

Re: 06 Series 1 Rear ARB bushing mount sizes?

Doh! Apologies, it's the height from the subframe we need - the bit between the bar and the frame is the size that varies (the bit you exactly concealed with the tape measure :) )

Congrats on the win =D>

Re: 06 Series 1 Rear ARB bushing mount sizes?

Well, we know now of two bar variations on the S1, one having a sort of kink in the middle. Whether the taller bushes were to give extra clearance for this or not I don't know, it could even just be down to a supply thing.

Re: 06 Series 1 Rear ARB bushing mount sizes?

There were two variations of rear stabiliser bar bushings used, tall ones and short ones - the only way to tell is to peep under the back bumper and check. You can either measure them or post a picture showing one of them from the side and we can tell you which you have :thumleft:

Re: Flywheel Locking Tool

Yes you can use it like that, it's a little set of teeth that engage with the starter ring gear and fixes to the two top gearbox bolt holes. I just used an alluminium bar (I think it was an old shelf bracket rail) bolted to the clutch pressure plate holes but obviously this can be tricky with the en...

Re: AC pressure switch diagnosis

I think you're right, at 9 bar there should be continuity between C-B as the wording in the technical documents suggests it becomes open when the pressure is too high or low. How are you measuring the pressure?

Re: Differential repair and rebuild

A 1.5 way LSD biases the locking towards acceleration, so it will partially lock on deceleration but less so than under acceleration. A 1 way only applies locking under acceleration, and a 2 way will try to lock equally under acceleration and deceleration.

Re: Led interior lamps flickering - shunt resistors needed?

This is down to how the car dims the bulbs. Rather than vary the voltage it uses PWM (pulse width modulation) - effectively switching the bulbs off and on very quickly to achieve a dimmed effect. The longer they are on rather than off (the pulse width) the brighter they are. With an incandescent bul...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Exactly my problem. My decat is made of Oem cat pipe where the cat "box" was removed and replaced with a pipe. Im thinking of making a 1/4 wave resonator for 3000rpm... A quarter wave resonator you say? I thought it had disappeared but just managed to dig up this old thread: https://www.r...

Re: Optimum cat location

The standard cat doesn't block with carbon when used correctly, and it could be argued the EGTs are managed for the benefit of the engine/side seals more than the cat. That said how about a metallic high flow unit in the normal position like matt suggests? If you are building it from scratch you cou...

Re: Battery Replacement

The procedure is the same for both. No need for the brake stomp - this resets the ES sensor plate profile and is only necessary when the sensor or plate have been disturbed. The fuel trims are reset (on both versions) when you disconnect the battery and will be relearned on next start - some cars ca...

I'll always remember spending time in the front garden of my last house, cursing every bus that went past belching out suffocating diesel clag and making such a racket it was hard to speak to people. Even out and about in the city I find them so obnoxious, big noisy and smelly. Then the electric bus...

Phil can probably assist if you need it actually

thought I would advise to minimise the number of pids in each log as framerate is not unlimited and is shared between all the pids.
Beat me to it :)

Sorry I can't give a detailed response, my car and openport is at a friend's house back in Wales at the moment! I think the timing is only 8 databits from memory, try databits=8
You could also drop the scaling and see what the raw data is before trying to convert it

A Cobra will certainly get you a shouty fix :D the sound is infectious and you won't want to come down from 5K RPM. I'm just about to change mine for something more sedate (because I'm getting old) but I already know I'm going to miss it! Best advice I can give for your back (from experience) is to ...

Re: Starting the rex after 3 years in a garage

Full of fuel is the best way to store it, I wouldn’t worry about that. As Paul said, accelerator down and two or three cranks of ten seconds, with a minute in between each for the starter to cool down, will get the oil flowing.

Presumably you will fit a new battery? (Edit - just reread that bit:))

Re: Fitting wheel spacers

It all depends on the wheels - the only way to tell is to pop them off (all of them, as they can differ as Dave mentions) and measure the depth of the recesses. Check this is greater than the stud length minus 20mm or whatever thickness spacer you are fitting.

Re: Fitting wheel spacers

Fit the open ended nuts from the spacers over the studs first and then cut with a cutting disc or a good hacksaw blade, file off the edges and then remove the nuts to repair the end of the threads. Just be aware if you then fit aftermarket wheels at a later date and they are thicker where the studs ...
