Re: Heavy bottoms and rear suspension question

Another afterthought
Peel back the carpet in the boot and look carefully for any buckling of the boot floor etc.
This is a regular thing with rear ending.

Re: Heavy bottoms and rear suspension question

Hi Hayden, Thanks for the measurements To shunt 1 1/2 tons of car metres with the brakes on is a reasonably heavy shunt and I would of insisted on the insurance paying for realignment at the previous place. However can we get someone to measure their car with the new PZ suspension in the same way yo...

Re: Heavy bottoms and rear suspension question

No it shouldn’t be like that.
When the car is on as level ground as possible measure accurately from center of hub nut to bottom of wheel arch vertically
On both sides and post up in mm please

Re: How to use cataclean?

has anyone put an old plug in cataclean to see if it actually does much? I believe they have although that obviously isn’t the same as running it through the engine. I was one of the first to recommend this through the RX-8 and it definitely works but results will vary depending on condition of the...

Re: new disks and pads

The standard discs are very good so cleaning and using a proper coating is fine. Grooves I believe are primarily for gas dispersal which can cause a friction problem. Unless your going on track you don’t need to consider things like that unless you like the ascetics. Always use good pads for the pur...

Re: More side-support for narrower people?

I think I fall into the category of narrower people. The most important thing is never to polish the seat or steering wheel. Had the car cleaned once without telling them not to polish the wheel ( Lethal ) 😉 I’m used to driving like this and just wedge left knee against tunnel, right knee against do...

I don’t mind going out with Duncan or Andy if I’m at the event, I don’t know if I will be in the country at the moment.
I wouldn’t be doing the club session anyway but may go out and play in another session so I can have some fun :) ;)

Re: Oil cooler oil volume

I would advise that you remove the oil coolers and get the internals cleaned properly before refitting and filling. A member once commented to me, ( I can drive around after my engine rebuild and the oil is as clean as new,...I do a track day and the oil is black ) I responded with ( You didn’t clea...

Re: Tein Street Basis Z - wrong instructions?

Throw them in the bin I think these are the units that a lot of RX-8 owners have had problems with. ( do a search on our forum ) What can you expect when the car set costs in the region of £100 to manufacture If you want to do more than drive to the shops with no passengers and nothing in the boot y...

Re: r3 what tyres, 235/40/19 or 245/40/19 plus brand?

That’s all perfectly true on the S-1 Matt when you change from 225x45x18 to 235x40x18
The OP has a R-3 so goes from 225x40x19 to 235x40x19 so increases the hight of the sidewall slightly.
Still the way to go though

Re: r3 what tyres, 235/40/19 or 245/40/19 plus brand?

Your logic is correct :thumleft: I have an S-1 not an R-3 so don’t know how the 245x40 fits in the arch However a discerning driver would feel the difference with the higher gearing slowing acceleration and vaguer turn in. I advise 235 as the best compromise for handling and straight line drag. Rega...

Re: r3 what tyres, 235/40/19 or 245/40/19 plus brand?

I don’t recommend the 35 profile to anyone in 18 or 19 wheels It’s important to have some movement and give in the tyre wall for handling and soaking up the potholes we have in GB The exception would be of course if you had ridiculously wide tyres like 300mm and then 35% would give you decent tyre w...

Re: Replacing the headliner.

The biggest problem is that the back is in a fixed position and very upright on bucket seats.
I have a pair in mine both on adjustable rails but I am going to change them for cloth seats and I’m not large or tall.

Re: Replacing the headliner.

Just how tall are you I would have to ask ? The cloth seats are the best option and I believe you can turn the seat rail over or something to get a little more clearance if I remember a thread correctly. You can lean the seat back as well Bucket seats tend to be difficult for large people and are ve...
