Re: Clive's 520 BHP Super GT RX-8 Race Car

Clive, a belated well done; those are some good laps times for Mallory. The off-camber nature of the Devil’s Elbow does not help once a slide starts, well done for the evasive action; could have been nasty. Ranjan. Thanks Ranjan, Problem out the elbow was that the car was a little dead in 2nd gear ...

Re: Clive's 520 BHP Super GT RX-8 Race Car

Still dont know what the front two sister cars have under the hood that makes them so quick. I do know that there's lots of carbon and the red one weighs under 800kilo (mine is 1250) plus he was was using a new style 6K sequential gear box. Here we go, this is maybe how my cannard got bent  Re...

Re: Clive's 520 BHP Super GT RX-8 Race Car

Many thanks for the support both yourself and others here showed Ray when I was struggling to get the car right. I always had faith the RX-8 could be turned into a winner and it did "eventually"! Still got one event to go next month at Donnington but so far 2019 Highlights have included 9 class wins...

Re: Clive's 520 BHP Super GT RX-8 Race Car

I know it is not really comparable but I really struggled in my RX8 off that hairpin. It's all relevant as we are both long wheel base and rwd, short wheelbase and fwd means they turn quicker and drag themselves out easier. Contemplated 1st gear but I knew it would just light the tyres up

Re: Clive's 520 BHP Super GT RX-8 Race Car

That is a hell of a quick lap time Clive. Thanks for that :) , I got it down to a 51.3 in the second race ;) . If I wasn't using a 4.1 rear gear and a 4.3 or 4.4 so I could get proper acceleration off the hairpin, I recon there's a 50 second lap in the car (that R8 only just broke a 49  )

Re: Clive's 520 BHP Super GT RX-8 Race Car

Going into the event I had a target of getting into the 51second bracket but the day started pretty pants as I was surprised to see a 53.8 which I wasn’t happy about but then made a small tyre pressure adjustment for a bit more rear grip. Then came the first race where I made a poor start and basica...

@Clive I noticed in the Mallory race that you were driving with the passenger window open.
How much does this compromise the aero?
I don't like running with the window out for the reasons you state, but its that or collapse with heat that comes into the cab

After a good run at Brands Hatch a couple of weeks ago Racing Ferrari's, Porches and other strange machinery ;) , I found the latest mods have worked, shaving 1.5 seconds off my best time, getting down to a 53.6 second lap, plus I even got on the podium  Here are the links to the races belo...

I use Optimax in the race car with Lucas Octane Booster. Result was the mis went and people reported more flame  OK, seriously now.## Be ve...

Re: Opinions on Dry Sump Pricing

With my piston racers, yes I had to have dry sump systems, but it's maybe worth knowing that I don't use use a dry sump with the race car, after much development, stopping the oil coming up the filer tube and engine breathing management has been the key. Engines now on 42 races with 520BHP, so I can...

Re: Engine harness tuck ecu and fuse box relocate

When I built the race car because of heat generated on track, I was very conscious of heat management and did not want any wiring on the drivers side of the car. Keeping the stock loom with a sealed hole in the bulkhead I relocated the engine and steering ECU's behind where the glove box would be. T...

Re: Clive's 520 BHP Super GT RX-8 Race Car

Ranjan popped in today and whilst talking I realised I had not posted on here for a while. Mallory didn't go very well, I had a misfire due to the car overboosting which turned out to be the wastegate had died. Still qualified fifth but before the race I wrongly adjusted the rear of the car giving i...

All set for Mallory Park , new brake pads fitted plus new medium compound tyres up the inside.
