Re: Happy 40th birthday Metro

I’ve driven countless Metros as the RAF had loads of them, all the most basic version (IIRC Austin 850, Rover 998, Rover 100 1.1l and Rover 100 1.5D, all without such luxuries as a radio). I loved driving them as the Hydragas suspension was competent and comfortable. Despite their reputation for poo...

Worth anything? The last time that I looked OEM cats were getting £500 at scrappies. Speak to one.

Re: Kids and the car

We’ve had Annie’s 5 yr-old grandson in the back of an R3 in 4 different baby seats since he was a baby. The latest seat is an isofix that is a bit fiddly to fit so we use the seat belt alone. That’s not ideal either, as getting at the seatbelt buckle is awkward with him in the seat, so as the lesser...

Re: WTB R3 Seats and Wheels

Not everyone with an R3 is that impressed by the seats and I know of two that have fitted S1 seats as replacements; one "leather" and one from a Kuro in "suede". Their other halves were taken with the heated options. I've had three R3s. The seats in the two 2009 cars were uncomfortable after 20 min...

Re: PZ alloys standard colour

IMO that Rover grey isn’t a good match, but it was the best off-the-shelf colour I could find when I tried to find better. I had to do a fair amount of mixing for touch-ups.

IMO for what is in it, that is a pretty reasonable price for an OEM cat that sells for £500 scrap.

Re: Just got an RX8, but it seems broken and my garage dont know hot to fix it.....

BHR coils should be more than adequate. Bridgeport’s, as others have said, have different idle characteristics. Don’t touch a dealer for a compression test. If you can’t get a proper one done, You can do a Ghetto compression test that will give crude results that will show any major problems. Bridge...

Eeek. Entry between 0700 and 0730. I've not been up by 0600 for a long time now. At least that means a nice quiet drive there.

Re: R3 centre console same as S1?

The S2 uses the standard S1 heated seat switches. The seat change is straightforward, just 4 bolts and 2 connectors to remove and refit.

Re: Winter tyre recommendations (R3 wheels)

I run 225/45/18 Michelin Cross Climates on 40th Ann wheels for the colder 6 months of the year. They’re a great tyre. I Ran true winter tyres over 30 years but decided that their more restricted temperature range was more of a burden than their extra cold temperature performance. As it turned out, I...

Re: R3 centre console same as S1?

The S1 & R3 are indeed different designs. The wiring is there on R3s because other S2 variants, not sold here, had heated seats and Mazda decided a different loom wasn’t cost effective.

I, for one, had S1 heated seats in an R3. The R3 part you show has the switch cut outs marked underneath.

Re: Low (ish) idle when warm.

The SAI pump just dumps air into the cat to get it up to temp from cold a little quicker in order to make the Euro 4 assessors happy. Removing it will throw up 2 fault codes. You will need a remap to block them, particularly when putting the cat back for an MOT when the only affect will be a little ...

Meeting you all has cheered up Annie and I up considerably. We hadn’t realised the full extent of how the pernicious effect of not being able to socialise has affected us.

Sitting in the gloom at a dogging site was far nicer than sitting in the gloom at our local.

Re: Rx8 13b-rew swap

You need to have shed loads of money, time and motivation to even contemplate this.

As for this kit, you will have issues for a RHD car. For example, the exhaust manifold won’t fit as the steering column gets in the way.

Re: Capri uncertainty.

Good to see you keeping them. I had an LHD German spec 2.3L Capri for a while back in 1986. I never could parallel park correctly as the Recaros sat low and exacerbated the bonnet length. The 2.8i I drove later was far better. I’d love one, but my R3 is all I need and want for now. They’re definitel...

Re: R3 Oil filter housing

Moving the filter isn’t easy because there is insufficient room for a conventional/available relocation housing to fit.

You’ll probably need to have a bespoke one made up. £££

Good luck.
