What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Stage one of aftermarket stereo install complete, I've moved the OEM display from above the vents, to below the stereo, this involved a bit of cutting (ashtray mostly and the plastic behind the stereo to facilitate cable routing) the display actually looks brighter now, the next step will be to wire in the new stereo.

Fitted the android unit I'd purchased from Reloy at Castle Combe a few weeks ago. Got it all working now after a bit of fettling with the hazard light and air con buttons but well chuffed with it! Cheers Reloy!

Finally got the gauges and pod printed and installed after about 30 iterations and 3 mounting locations, think about 2kg in filament too
Not perfect but works werll for now.

Obligatory not my RX-8, but got my merc wheel set back on with fresh tyres

Took me enough ferrying about and faffing between spare wheels on the car so it can still drive, and the nice set in the boot to go and get them fitted

Also got the rear discs and pads coming up that I need to do, so i'm looking forward to this



(side note - I absolutely detest wheel bolts. Every time I take the wheels off this car without fail I come to hate them even more)

Wheel hub restoration 1 out of 4 complete (nearly)!

Fully refurbished caliper with new seals, pins and screws, new rotor and performance break pads, plus brand new hub dust covers thanks to HarSc!

Wanted to replace the brake line, too, but as “fortunate” I am, the brake line nut fused together with the pipe, so it will be a full line replacement…

Might not be the best work, mistakes have been made, but one needs to start somewhere and I think it looks pretty darn good!

Well you have the grooves going the correct way I would clean the wheel spigot with some emery and put a smear of copper grease on it, it helps keep the alloy from sticking!

Cut up the bonnet that was in superb condition but I couldn't even give it away.

Took the car out following the Mrs as she took her car for a service to give her a lift around town. Got stuck in the match day traffic in Norwich, with the car sat for ages. Spotted the temp gauge ever so slightly creeping, so did everything I could to help prevent it. Definitely not ideal! One to look at for sure when doing a full service later on this month…

In other news, popped to the local Mazda garage to get some FL22, only for the young overly eager sales chap to say their servicing and parts have gone home for the day and he can’t ring it up on his computer to sell it! Will have to wait for Monday. So frustrating. Any ideas for readily available, decently priced FL22?

Hmm maybe not today, but over the last few months I could've bought a fresh one with the money I've spend on my beloved Kuro.
New radiator, sports cat, suspension, brakes (disks and pads all round), air con condenser, battery. It's very nice though

Fitted genuine coils and plugs. Magnecore 8mm leads and an RRP 200cel cat midpipe.

The old coils, plugs and leads were non genuine and very tired. Standard midpipe was rattling from the resonator section.

That first coil is for sure a fake, as that not how genuine Mazda coils are made

Spent the day at Ryan Rotary Performance to see scott and (adam) and get to the bottom of hesitation issues unfortunately found the 200cell cat had had it's day and had to have a new one also new heat shields air pump deleted, now back to normal, whilst there scott took me for a little drive (in the wet ) in his na 8 the one he used in the challenge with josh from Black Star Motorsport and what a fast car great performance just need a passenger ride in the dry !

I know he's made changes since, but I was very impressed with his car when he let me drive it on his local roads on a wet December day 2 years ago. Very well set up. It was a fun test drive of the engine before he pulled it and fitted it to my purple car.

Added some oil and coolant as both were a bit low then went for a 60 mile round trip to Matlock. Probably looked weird to passers by as I was being extremely delicate not to overfill the coolant. Adding a bit at a time and then rocking the car until I could see the level. Even dark green is hard to see on the grubby expansion tank. Still ended up a bit above full but shouldn't matter .

Doesn't be surprised if/when it blows out the excess.

However, the original overflow pipe blows that at the connections for the power steering and/or OMP, and that leads to a world of hurt....

Replaced both front anti-roll bar links. Inevitably had to cut them both off.

Also found the link for the headlight level sensor has a seized bottom ball joint and broken the bracket from the top ball joint to the unit itself, has anybody got the link, bracket or just the whole assembly?

Yesterday I finally got round to replacing the O/S front fog light bulb as the MOT is due this month not that it is a failure point, now these are LED`s as I had replaced the Halogens years ago and they have never been used but one had stopped working - so much for the life span of LED`s, I had forgotten what a fun little job it is to change some light bulbs in an RX-8 anyway then I checked all the other lights to find the O/S front side light was blinking on and off that too was an LED and again its not had much use as I don`t drive my RX-8 much at night these days even changing that O/S bulb is another fun little job and while I was at it I changed the N/S which is a lot easier on that side as it does`t have the ECU box and wiring in the way.

Question - how many RX-8 owners does it take to change a fog light and side light bulb - only one but what a pain in the RS!
